Gono Bishwabidyalay, also known as People's University, is a private university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The university was founded in 1994. The "Gono" in its name means "people" in Bengali, reflecting the university's mission to serve the general public and provide access to higher education to students of all backgrounds. Gono Bishwabidyalay was founded by Dr. Zafar Sobhan, a renowned economist and social activist, who was also a student of Professor Muhammad Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank, a well-known microfinance institution in Bangladesh.
