Anhui University of Finance and Economics was founded in Hefei in 1959, and was named Anhui Finance and Trade College at that time. In 1961, the school moved to Bengbu, the central city of the Huaihe River Basin, which is known as the "Pearl City". The school was successively affiliated to the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade. In February 2000, the State Council decided that Anhui Finance and Trade College would be jointly built by the central and local governments, with the Anhui Provincial People's Government as the main management. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Anhui University of Finance and Economics in May 2004. At present, the school is a university jointly built by the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives and the Anhui Provincial People's Government, a characteristic high-level university that Anhui Province focuses on building, and a university with peak disciplines in Anhui Province. The school now has two campuses, Bengbu Longhu East and West, and the Hefei Institute of Advanced Studies, covering an area of more than 1,450 acres and a building area of about 750,000 square meters. It has won the titles of "National Model Unit for Greening", "National Top 100 Canteens", the first "Anhui Civilized Campus", and the national "Model Unit for Energy-Saving Public Institutions". It has 3 provincial peak disciplines, 3 provincial peak cultivation disciplines, and 8 provincial key disciplines. In the "China's Best Discipline Ranking" list released by Soft Science in 2023, the school's applied economics and statistics entered the top 20%, and business administration entered the top 30%. According to the ESI (Essential Science Indicators Database) data from Clarivate Analytics in November 2023, the school's engineering (Engineering) and social sciences (Social Sciences, General) disciplines entered the top 1% of the global ESI ranking. The school has 9 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 36 master's degree authorization points, and 16 master's professional degree authorization categories. The school insists on strengthening the school with talents. There are 1,286 full-time teachers and 589 teachers with senior professional titles. The school insists on educating people first. Since its establishment, it has cultivated more than 200,000 talents of various types for the country and society. The school currently enrolls students in the first batch in 31 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) across the country. There are currently 19,922 full-time undergraduates and graduate students, and more than 10,000 continuing education students. There are currently 50 undergraduate majors in enrollment, including 24 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 18 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. The proportion of first-class majors ranks second among universities in Anhui Province. It has signed cooperation agreements with 42 high-level universities in 19 countries and regions, recruited international students from 10 countries, and held Sino-foreign cooperative education projects with the Sejong Campus of Korea University in South Korea.
