Beijing Forestry University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the Beijing Municipal People's Government. It is one of the first batch of key universities in the national "211 Project" and a pilot university for the national "Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" construction project. It is a national "Double First-Class" construction university. It has a profound historical accumulation. The school's history can be traced back to the Agricultural Science and Forestry Department of the Imperial University of Peking in 1902. In 1952, the national colleges and departments were adjusted, and the Forestry Department of Beijing Agricultural University merged with the Forestry Department of Hebei Agricultural College to form Beijing Forestry College. In 1956, the Landscape Architecture Department of Beijing Agricultural University and part of the Architecture Department of Tsinghua University were incorporated into the school. In 1960, it was listed as a national key university, and in 1981 it became one of the first universities with the right to confer doctoral and master's degrees. In 1985, it was renamed Beijing Forestry University. In 1996, it was listed as one of the first batch of key universities in the "211 Project" by the state. In 2000, it was transferred from the former State Forestry Administration to the direct management of the Ministry of Education. In the same year, the Ministry of Education approved the trial establishment of the Graduate School. In 2001, the Ministry of Education and the State Forestry Administration jointly supported the establishment. In 2004, the Graduate School was formally established. In 2005, the undergraduate independent selection and admission qualification was obtained. In 2008, it became a pilot university for the national "Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" construction project. In 2011, it participated in the establishment of the Beijing High-Tech University Alliance with 10 other industry-specific universities. In 2012, it took the lead in establishing China's first forestry collaborative innovation center-the "Efficient Cultivation and Utilization of Forest Resources" Collaborative Innovation Center. In 2016, the school's "Forest Molecular Design Breeding High-tech Innovation Center" was selected as the second batch of Beijing's high-tech innovation centers. In 2017, it was the first batch of universities to enter the ranks of the national "Double First-Class" construction, and the two disciplines of forestry and landscape architecture were selected into the list of "Double First-Class" construction disciplines. In 2019, ecological restoration engineering and urban and rural human settlement ecological environment were selected into the list of high-tech disciplines in Beijing universities. In 2021, the Xiongan campus was successfully approved, becoming the first batch of universities to settle in Xiongan. In 2022, it was selected into the list of universities for the second round of national "Double First-Class" construction. The two disciplines of forestry and landscape architecture have been selected into the list of national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines for two consecutive rounds. The school has distinctive characteristics. The school is based on biology and ecology, and features forestry, landscape architecture, forestry engineering, soil and water conservation and desertification control, grassland science and agricultural and forestry economic management. It is a national key university with coordinated development of agriculture, science, engineering, management, economics, literature, law, philosophy, education, and art. Since its establishment in 1952, the school has trained more than 200,000 graduates and a group of foreign students for the country, including 16 academicians of the two academies, including the former Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The discipline is strong. The talent training system is complete. The school currently has 17 colleges, 64 undergraduate majors (including professional directions), 66 master's degree enrollment disciplines, 30 doctoral enrollment disciplines, 7 postdoctoral mobile stations, 8 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 25 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 4 interdisciplinary disciplines and 17 professional master's degree authorization points. There are 25,693 students on campus, including 13,730 undergraduates, 8,102 postgraduates, and 3,861 students in various continuing education programs. The university implements the tutor system and the major and minor system, and has a variety of training models for top innovative talents and compound talents, such as the National Science Base, the National Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Training Program, the Liang Xi Experimental Class, and Sino-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools. More than 60 graduate students have won gold medals in the International Student Landscape Architecture Design Competition of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA-UNESCO), the International Student Architecture Design Competition, and the China-Japan-Korea Student Landscape Design Competition. The only national intangible cultural heritage of colleges and universities in the country - Chinese traditional flower arrangement; compiling the most important cultural project in the national forestry field, "Chinese Classics·Forestry Classics"; taking the lead in the country to release the "China Provincial Ecological Civilization Construction Evaluation Report", "Yellow River Ecological Civilization Green Paper" and "National Park Green Paper"; deeply participating in the compilation of the "Encyclopedia of Chinese Forestry"; the original drama "Liang Xi" by teachers and students has been widely praised by all sectors of society, and green activity brands such as the Green Long March and the Ecological Civilization Doctoral Lecture Group are well-known throughout the country, making positive contributions to the promotion of green culture. Two English academic journals sponsored by the school, "Forest Ecosystems (English)" and "Ornithological Research (English)", were selected into the "Echelon Journal" construction project of the China Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan, becoming an important platform to demonstrate the school's academic level and international influence. International cooperation and open education are widely promoted. The school has carried out scientific and educational cooperation with more than 190 high-level colleges and scientific research institutions in more than 30 countries and regions overseas; actively promoted international academic exchanges, took the lead in establishing the Asia-Pacific Forestry Education Coordination Mechanism and the "East Asia-Australasian Migratory Bird Migration Research Center", and introduced more than ten world-class academic masters to the school for academic exchanges and cooperation; hosted the Ministry of Commerce's foreign aid training for 18 consecutive years, and trained more than 600 forestry officials from developing countries; signed strategic agreements with international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Forest Restoration and Sustainable Management Organization, and the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization; jointly established the "China-France Eurasian Forest Invasive Biology Joint Laboratory" with the French Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and jointly established the "China-Canada National Park Joint Laboratory" with the University of British Columbia in Canada, and jointly established the "Landscape Hydrology Joint Research Center" with the University of California-Berkeley in the United States; and implemented more than 40 international scientific and technological cooperation projects. It has jointly organized Sino-foreign cooperative education projects in wood science and engineering and biotechnology with the University of British Columbia in Canada, and has carried out multiple joint training projects with universities in Europe, the United States, Australia and other countries. It has been approved as a high-level international talent training innovation and practice project base by the Ministry of Education, and has selected outstanding students to study abroad. It has successively joined the "Global Challenge University Alliance", "Silk Road Agricultural Education and Science and Technology Innovation Alliance", "'Belt and Road' South-South Cooperation Agricultural Education and Science and Technology Innovation Alliance", and "China-Central and Eastern European Countries University Association" to build a high-level platform for all-round international cooperation. It has established partnerships with many universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and carried out a series of distinctive and rich academic and cultural exchange activities. At present, the school has set up an independent international college and is one of the "National Pilot Universities for International Students Work Platforms". It has established the first African alumni association of forestry colleges with "international students" as the main body. Cooperating with the State Forestry and Grassland Administration to implement the intergovernmental cooperation agreement with countries along the "Belt and Road", a total of 281 international students from 65 countries will study in the school in 2022, of which 95% are degree students. The school covers a total area of 13,176 mu, of which the school headquarters covers an area of 696 mu and the experimental forest farm covers an area of 12,480 mu. The library has a building area of 23,400 square meters, with a collection of more than 1.97 million paper documents, more than 8.37 million digital resource documents such as various databases, electronic journals, and electronic books, and 76 Chinese and foreign databases and resource platforms. At present, the school is aiming to provide higher education that satisfies the people. In accordance with the new era "three-step" strategy proposed by the 11th Party Congress of the school, the school fully implements the party's education policy, builds a new development pattern of "one school and two districts", and strives to build a world-class forestry university rooted in China.
