Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is a national key university with Chinese medicine as its main discipline. It is directly under the management of the Ministry of Education and is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Beijing Municipal Government. The current party secretary of the school is Wang Yaoqi and the president is Xu Anlong. Beijing University of Chinese Medicine was founded in 1956. Its predecessor was Beijing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the earliest higher Chinese medicine college approved by the State Council. In 1960, it was identified as a national key university by the central government; in 1993, it was renamed Beijing University of Chinese Medicine; in 1996, it was selected as a key university in the national "211 Project"; in 2000, it merged with Beijing Acupuncture and Orthopedics College to form a new Beijing University of Chinese Medicine; in 2011, it was selected as a national "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" construction university; in 2017, three disciplines of Chinese medicine, integrated Chinese and Western medicine, and Chinese pharmacy were selected into the list of national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines; in 2018, it became the chairman unit of the new teaching guidance committee of Chinese medicine and integrated Chinese and Western medicine majors of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education. In 2020, it was awarded the title of "National Civilized Campus". The school currently has three campuses, namely Liangxiang Campus, Heping Street Campus and Wangjing Campus. In the long-term practice of running schools, the school adheres to the school motto of "diligent and extensive, and virtuous and helpful", advocates the concept of "people's heart to learn, inheritance and innovation", adheres to the purpose of "establishing morality and educating people, educating people with culture", and promotes the spirit of "pursuing excellence and stopping at perfection", highlighting its characteristics and strengthening its advantages. It is an education base for cultivating high-level innovative Chinese medicine talents in my country, a demonstration base for higher Chinese medicine education reform, a research base for Chinese medicine knowledge innovation and technological innovation, a medical base for preventing and treating major diseases and difficult diseases, a humanistic base for promoting excellent traditional culture, and an international exchange base for promoting Chinese medicine to the world. It has made important contributions to the development of human health and the progress of civilization, and has become a famous Chinese medicine university integrating education, scientific research, medical care, and Chinese medicine culture communication with a high reputation at home and abroad. The school (including directly affiliated hospitals) currently has 6,184 faculty and staff and 1,727 full-time teachers. The school has 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 8 national medical masters, and a teaching staff composed of famous experts and scholars at home and abroad and outstanding young and middle-aged teachers. The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating people with morality and pays attention to drawing nutrition from the rich soil of Chinese culture and traditional Chinese medicine culture. The concept of "cultivating people with culture" runs through the entire work of educating people, and cultivates socialist builders and successors with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor. There are 15,474 full-time students, including 6,029 graduate students (1,590 doctoral students and 4,439 master students), 8,937 undergraduates, and 508 international students. There are also 20,813 online education students. The school is committed to building a talent training system with high-level education as the main focus for the future. At present, there are 16 undergraduate majors in Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine pharmacy, pharmacy, acupuncture and massage, rehabilitation therapy, public utilities management, business administration, pharmaceutical management, nursing, English, law, bioengineering, Chinese and Western clinical medicine, big data management and application, and Chinese medicine orthopedics. The school is one of the first institutions in the country to establish doctoral degree programs and postdoctoral research mobile stations among higher Chinese medicine colleges and universities. It has three postdoctoral research mobile stations in Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine. It has three first-level doctoral degree authorizations, covering 42 second-level doctoral degree authorizations; 7 first-level master's degree authorizations, covering 47 master's degree authorizations. It has five professional degree categories, including 10 doctoral professional degree authorizations and 14 master's professional degree authorizations. It is the secretariat of the National Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Pharmacy, and the convener of the Chinese Medicine and Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Discipline Evaluation Group. The school currently has two first-level national key disciplines, 15 second-level national key disciplines, 48 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, two first-level Beijing key disciplines, eight second-level Beijing key disciplines, and two Beijing high-tech disciplines. The school currently has 7 national first-class undergraduate professional construction points, 1 basic discipline outstanding student training program 2.0 bases, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national TCM clinical teaching training demonstration center, 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone, 10 national first-class undergraduate courses, 3 national teaching teams, 4 national curriculum ideological and political teaching teams, and 3 national off-campus practical education bases for college students. The school won 1 first prize and 6 second prizes in the National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 special prize in the Beijing Teaching Achievement Award, 15 first prizes and 25 second prizes. The school currently has 62 scientific research bases at the provincial and ministerial levels or above, including the National International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, the Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Base of Higher Education Institutions, the National TCM Clinical Research Base, the National TCM Inheritance and Innovation Center, the Key Research Room of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Level 3 Laboratory of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Beijing Key Laboratory, the Beijing International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Beijing Philosophy and Science Research Base and other scientific research platforms. The university currently has teaching units such as the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the College of Chinese Medicine, the College of Life Sciences, the College of Acupuncture and Massage, the Qihuang College, the College of Management, the College of Nursing, the College of Humanities, the College of Marxism, the College of National Studies, the International College, the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, the Department of Continuing Education, and the Department of Physical Education. There are school-level research institutions such as the Beijing Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the National Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution and Prevention of Diseases of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, the National Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine Development and Strategy of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and the National Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine Higher Education of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. The school currently has four directly affiliated hospitals in Beijing, namely the Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, the Oriental Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and the Fangshan Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, as well as the National Medical Hall TCM Clinic. In recent years, the school has followed the guiding ideology of "guiding the focus of medical and health work to shift downward and resources to sink", explored a new model of school-local cooperation and co-construction, and supported affiliated hospitals to build high-quality regional service platforms for traditional Chinese medicine in local areas. There are also 19 clinical teaching bases such as the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Guang'anmen Hospital, Xiyuan Hospital, Wangjing Hospital, and Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which undertake the clinical teaching, internship, and practice of all students in the school. The school currently has 17 national key clinical specialties and 44 key specialties of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are 6 inheritance studios of national masters of traditional Chinese medicine, 3 inheritance studios of national famous traditional Chinese medicine, 2 inheritance studios of national traditional Chinese medicine academic schools, 43 inheritance studios of national famous old traditional Chinese medicine experts, and 44 two rooms and one station of the Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine "3+3 Project of Inheritance of Torch". At the beginning of the school, the school became the first higher traditional Chinese medicine college in New China to accept foreign students to study traditional Chinese medicine. So far, it has trained more than 20,000 traditional Chinese medicine professionals for 94 countries and regions, and has established cooperative relations with 118 well-known universities and research institutions in 31 countries and regions. In 1996, in cooperation with Middlesex University in the United Kingdom, my country established the first independent medical bachelor's degree program in foreign universities. The university was the first among the top 50 universities in the world to offer undergraduate education in traditional Chinese medicine, and cooperated with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore to offer a dual bachelor's degree in "traditional Chinese medicine-biology". In cooperation with the Medical School of the University of Barcelona in Spain, the university opened the first master's degree program in traditional Chinese medicine recognized by the European Union. The university opened the first doctoral and master's degree programs for Western doctors to study traditional Chinese medicine taught entirely in English, and the first bachelor's degree program in traditional Chinese medicine taught entirely in English. The university took the lead in establishing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Medical University Alliance to create a model of cooperation and promote the construction of a global health community. In 1991, the university established the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Quetzting Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Germany, setting a precedent for Chinese universities to run traditional Chinese medicine specialty hospitals overseas and becoming a model for traditional Chinese medicine to go global. The university pioneered the "Overseas Traditional Chinese Medicine Center" that integrates medical care, education, scientific research and cultural communication, providing an effective "Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Plan" for the overseas development of traditional Chinese medicine. It has successively established the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Australian Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Russian Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, the American Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the China-Germany Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine (Quetzting), making traditional Chinese medicine a bright business card for cultural exchanges and people-to-people exchanges between China and foreign countries. The Russian Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine has successfully obtained the qualification of a medical institution in the Russian Federation and has become the first hospital with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics to be included in the national medical insurance system in Russia. The Australian Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine has actively promoted the academic education of traditional Chinese medicine for Western doctors, and two batches of students with master's degrees in traditional Chinese medicine have successfully graduated. The American Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine has aimed at the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and the forefront of medicine, and has successfully held many high-end academic conferences on cancer, epilepsy, pediatric diseases, reproductive diseases, etc. It has cooperated with the National Children's Hospital of the United States to build a pediatric clinic combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics, becoming an important platform for academic exchanges and dialogues between China and the United States in the field of medicine. The school hosts four high-level academic journals, "Journal of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine", "Modern Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine", "Traditional Chinese Medicine Education" and "Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine Science (English)", which is an important academic exchange and promotion platform for traditional Chinese medicine education, scientific research, and medical treatment. The Journal of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine was selected into the core, science and technology core and CSCD databases of Peking University, and was selected into the catalog of T1-level excellent Chinese medicine science and technology journals, the World Impact Index (WJCI) Report and the "Top Academic Paper Platform of China's Fine Science and Technology Journals-Leader 5000" project, and won the titles of China's Fine Science and Technology Journals, China's Top 100 Science and Technology Journals, and 100 Outstanding Chinese Academic Journals.
