The Central Academy of Fine Arts is the only higher art school directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It currently has 15 professional schools and departments, including the School of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, the Department of Oil Painting, the Department of Printmaking, the Department of Sculpture, the Department of Mural Painting, the Basic Department of Plastic Arts, the School of Experimental Art and Technology Art, the School of Humanities, the School of Design, the School of Architecture, the School of Urban Design, the School of Art Management and Education, the (Sino-French) School of Art and Design Management, the School of Restoration, and the School of Marxism. The college currently has 7,556 students of various types, including: 4,136 undergraduates, 1,366 master's students, 320 doctoral students, 259 international students, 917 students from the affiliated middle school, and 558 other students. The college's teaching and research area covers a total area of 495 acres, with a total construction area of 247,000 square meters. The college is committed to building a modern art education discipline structure in which modeling, design, architecture, humanities and other disciplines support and influence each other. History The predecessor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts was the National Peking Art College, which can be traced back to the National Beijing Art School advocated by the famous educator Mr. Cai Yuanpei in 1918. The famous art educator Zheng Jin served as the first president. This is the first national art education institution in Chinese history and the beginning of modern art education in China. In November 1949, the National Peking Art College and the Fine Arts Department of the Third Department of North China University merged. The predecessor of the Fine Arts Department of the Third Department of North China University was the Fine Arts Department of Yan'an Lu Xun Academy of Arts established in 1938. With the approval of the Central People's Government, the National Academy of Fine Arts was established, and Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the name of the academy. Xu Beihong served as the first president. In January 1950, with the approval of the State Council of the Central People's Government, it was officially named the Central Academy of Fine Arts. On April 1, the founding ceremony of the Central Academy of Fine Arts was held at No. 5 Xiaowei Hutong, Wangfujing. In the more than 100 years of operation by successive famous teachers, the Central Academy of Fine Arts has brought together a group of high-end artistic talents represented by masters in the Chinese art world, forming a spectacular elite team of art education. Before the founding of New China, the Central Academy of Fine Arts attracted many famous artists to serve as faculty members in its tortuous history of running the school. The college has been trying out credit-based teaching management and a new teaching calendar since 2004, with 38 teaching weeks per year, divided into three semesters. The library is one of the most advanced art libraries in China, with a total of nearly 400,000 books. The art gallery has precious collections, including more than 2,000 scroll paintings since the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
