Chengdu Agricultural Science and Technology Vocational College was established in 2002 with the approval of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and sponsored by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government. The school originated from the Provincial Chengdu Advanced Agricultural Vocational School, which was run by the Agricultural College of National Sichuan University in 1937. Its predecessor was the Sichuan Wenjiang Agricultural School, a national key technical secondary school established in 1958. In the course of more than 60 years of schooling, the school has always attached its feelings to the "three rural issues", attached its ideals to the countryside, placed its classrooms in the fields, and placed its way out on innovation, forming a school-running tradition of "serving the three rural issues and educating people for the development of agriculture" and a cultural spirit of "being close to agriculture, serving agriculture, developing agriculture, being dedicated, diligent, and starting a business". In 2006, the school was rated "excellent" in the national assessment of talent training for higher vocational colleges, and was one of the first provincial-level demonstrative higher vocational colleges in Sichuan Province; in 2019, the school was identified as a national high-quality junior college higher vocational college, and was selected as a construction unit of the "China's Characteristic High-level Higher Vocational School and Major Construction Plan" ("Double High Plan"); in 2020, the school became a pilot school for undergraduate vocational education talent training reform in Sichuan Province; in 2021, the school was selected as a national high-quality school for rural revitalization talent training. The school currently has two campuses, Liucheng Campus (No. 392, Detong Bridge) and Haike Campus (No. 179, Section 2, Xinhua Avenue), both located in Wenjiang District, Chengdu, an international garden city, with a campus area of 447 acres, and has built two off-campus practice parks with an area of more than 1,000 acres, Chongzhou Modern Agricultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Park and Pengzhou Gexianshan Industry-Education Integration Park, providing students with a good learning and living environment. The school currently has 670 faculty and staff, including 419 with doctoral and master's degrees, 208 with senior technical titles such as professor and associate professor. It also gathers many business and management elites and technical experts from modern enterprises as visiting professors and part-time teachers. Focusing on Sichuan's 10+3 modern agricultural industry system and Chengdu's 4+6 urban modern agricultural industry system, the school has 10 secondary colleges, including agronomy and horticulture, landscape architecture, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, economics and trade, leisure and tourism, urban and rural construction, electromechanical information, Marxism, general education and international education. There are 43 enrolling majors, including 3 national backbone majors, 2 central financial support majors, 4 provincial demonstration majors, 3 provincial key majors, and 22 1+X certificate pilot majors. It has piloted four vocational undergraduate majors in agronomy, landscape architecture, veterinary medicine, and horticulture, and has built a group of characteristic and advantageous majors such as leisure agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, landscape architecture, and agricultural equipment that serve the entire agricultural industry chain. It recruits more than 4,500 ordinary higher vocational undergraduate and junior college students each year, and has more than 13,000 students on campus. Among them, there are nearly 6,000 students in agricultural majors, accounting for 60% of the total number of agricultural higher vocational students in Sichuan Province. The school continues to deepen the integration of industry and education, and builds a new platform of "industry-education integration cluster" with groups (alliances) as integration carriers, characteristic industry colleges, and industry-education integration training bases as elements. Jointly initiated the establishment of the China Leisure Agriculture Industry-Education Alliance, the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle Modern Agriculture Industry-Education Alliance and other alliances. Together with China's top 500 New Hope Liuhe Co., Ltd. and Tongwei Co., Ltd., it co-built the "New Hope Modern Animal Husbandry Industry College" and "Tongwei Industry College", and operated the Sichuan Modern Agriculture Vocational Education Group with New Hope Liuhe as the "double chairman". The group was selected as a national demonstration vocational education group cultivation unit. Focusing on the needs of high-quality technical and skilled talents in Chengdu Agricultural Industrial Park, the school "sent education into the park", and co-built the Tianfu Agricultural Innovation Park Characteristic Fruit Industry College and Jintang Edible Fungi Industry College with Pujiang Tianfu Agricultural Innovation Park and Chengdu Modern Agricultural Equipment Industrial Park, and deeply created 5 enterprise (master) studios such as the "Flower Art Master Studio". The school was selected into the first batch of national higher vocational colleges in the list of "double top 100" in industry-education integration, innovation and entrepreneurship. The school has established the Chengdu Agricultural Maker College and the Chengdu Agricultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance. Relying on the college alliance, it has established the "1958 Agricultural Innovation Space-Maker Tribe-Agricultural Innovation Center-Modern Agricultural University Student Entrepreneurship Park" agricultural maker incubation system, and won the titles of Sichuan Province Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform Demonstration University, Sichuan University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club, Sichuan University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, and Sichuan Public Innovation Space; the school aims to cultivate agricultural makers, through the linkage of government, industry, academy and campus, implements the "155" entrepreneurship project, explores the reform of talent training mode, and won the second prize of national teaching achievements and the first prize of the eighth higher education teaching achievement in Sichuan Province. According to a survey by a third-party agency, the proportion of school graduates who start their own businesses after three years exceeds 10%, which is 4 percentage points higher than the national average for higher vocational education. Students return to their hometowns, take root in rural areas, start their own businesses, become new professional farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs, and drive local farmers to increase their income and become rich. The school insists on facing the "three rural issues", based in Chengdu, focusing on Sichuan, and radiating across the country. In the process of promoting agricultural modernization, it actively invests in the main battlefield of rural economic construction and provides strong talent and technical support for the rural revitalization strategy. As one of the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot units in the country, the school was the first in the country to establish the Chengdu Agricultural Vocational Managers College, pioneering the academic education of agricultural professional managers, and its achievements were selected as typical cases of the modern apprenticeship system of the Ministry of Education. The school actively responded to the "Action Plan for Improving the Academic Qualifications of One Million High-Quality Farmers". In the past two years, the scale of recruiting returning migrant workers, retired soldiers and other groups ranked first in the province, and its typical experience was selected as a typical case of the Ministry of Education's higher vocational education expansion teaching reform. In accordance with the idea of "one school, multiple points", the construction of 11 "farmers' field schools" was vigorously promoted to create a new form of regional farmer cultivation that closely integrates science and technology, education, industry, talents, and policies. It vigorously carried out various types of training at all levels for new professional farmers, grassroots agricultural technicians, etc., with an average of 30,000 people per day per year. The school gives full play to the advantages of agricultural scientific research resources, actively serves the local economic and social development, and has built 10 scientific and technological innovation platforms such as the Special Corn Research Institute, the Chinese Veterinary Medicine Research Institute, the Horticulture Research Institute, and the Animal Disease Detection Center. It focuses on strengthening the construction of scientific research teams and has created a number of key scientific research teams. It has also transformed a number of scientific research results such as Pleurotus ostreatus and Chinese veterinary medicine compositions, and promoted technologies such as soybean and corn strip composite planting, high-yield cultivation of Sichuan authentic medicinal materials, and rapid propagation of high-altitude potato detoxification. The school has taken advantage of its advantages to help with targeted poverty alleviation, and has organized several poverty alleviation expert groups. Through the four-dimensional support of "agricultural characteristics, intellectual advantages, scientific and technological strength, and educational resources", the school has taken measures to local conditions, and has focused on helping the development of agricultural industries in poor areas, with the improvement of industrial foundations, the application of scientific and technological achievements, and the promotion of agricultural technology. The school took the lead in establishing the "International Silk Road Alliance for Leisure Agriculture", integrating Tianfu culture to promote the connection between the Chinese and foreign peoples, and organized a series of "Approaching Tianfu and Talking about Farming" series of Chinese and foreign cultural exchange activities to promote the intangible cultural heritage of Rongpai, such as weaving art, flower art, and tea art. The school strengthened cooperation with South Asia and ASEAN in the field of agriculture, carried out training for more than 500 agricultural officials, agricultural technicians, and grassroots teachers in Laos, Myanmar, Nepal and other countries, developed Chengdu agricultural technology training standards, and strived to achieve "Chinese standards, Lancang-Mekong applicable". The school and the Northern Laos Agricultural and Forestry College jointly built the Laos Luang Prabang Overseas Industry College. The project was rated as a "characteristic cooperation project of the China-ASEAN Double Hundred Vocational Schools Strong Cooperation Flagship Plan". Looking to the future, the school has clearly defined its educational positioning of "focusing on agriculture, rural areas and farmers, and serving rural revitalization", adhered to the five development concepts of innovation, coordination, greenness, openness and sharing, and comprehensively implemented the "Five Level Improvement Action Plans" for talent training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and internationalization of education, as well as the "Four Guarantee Projects" of talent-based schools, science and technology-strengthening schools, reform-driven schools, and law-based schools. It will deepen comprehensive education reform, create a new situation of high-quality development, and strive to build a first-class domestic agricultural vocational college.
