Chengdu University of Information Technology is a provincial general undergraduate college jointly established by Sichuan Province, China Meteorological Administration and National Bureau of Statistics, and is a key development college in Sichuan Province. The school was founded in 1951 and restructured into Chengdu Meteorological School of the Central Meteorological Administration in 1956; it was upgraded to an undergraduate college-Chengdu Meteorological College in 1978; in 2000, the school was transferred from the China Meteorological Administration to Sichuan Province and renamed Chengdu University of Information Technology; in 2001, the Sichuan Statistics School, which was originally affiliated to the National Bureau of Statistics, was fully incorporated; in 2015, it was renamed Chengdu University of Information Technology. The school is one of the first batch of bachelor's degree-granting universities in the country, a national central and western basic capacity construction engineering university, one of the first batch of pilot universities for the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", one of the first batch of "first-class disciplines" construction universities in Sichuan Province, and a priority university for the cultivation of newly added doctoral degree-granting institutions in Sichuan Province. It is a formal member of the international CDIO organization, a deputy director unit of the National Meteorological Science and Education Integration Innovation Alliance, and a chairman unit of the Sichuan Cyberspace Security Association. The school currently has two campuses, Aviation Port and Longquan, covering an area of more than 2,000 acres. The school has a library with rich collections and modern sports stadiums with complete facilities. The environment is elegant and the scenery is pleasant. The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, strengthens the position of talent training center, draws on the international CDIO engineering education concept, continues to deepen education and teaching reform, and builds a talent training model of "three-stage training, two diversions, and diversified development". It is committed to cultivating high-quality application-oriented professionals with healthy mind and body, good humanistic qualities, systematic theoretical knowledge, and solid practical ability for the country. There are 19 colleges (departments, centers), 53 undergraduate majors, and more than 25,000 full-time students. 37 majors have been approved as national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, including 16 national ones; 17 national and provincial "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" pilot majors, including 8 national ones; 9 majors have passed the national engineering education professional certification. The school has comprehensively strengthened discipline construction, and the discipline characteristics and advantages are becoming increasingly prominent. The school focuses on atmospheric science, information science and economics and management, features interdisciplinary studies, takes engineering, science and management as the main disciplines, and coordinates and integrates engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law and art. There are 3 provincial "first-class disciplines" construction disciplines, 5 provincial key disciplines, 3 ESI global top 1% disciplines, 14 master's degree authorization first-level disciplines, 12 master's professional degree authorization categories, forming three major disciplines of atmosphere, information and economics and management. The school conducts scientific research in the forefront of world science and technology and major national needs, serves and supports the development of meteorology, statistics, national defense and other undertakings, fully implements the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle and Sichuan's "four modernizations in sync, urban-rural integration, and five districts prospering" development strategy, and continuously improves its scientific and technological innovation and social service capabilities. There are 28 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, 16 municipal and departmental scientific research platforms, and 1 postdoctoral research workstation. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 230 projects such as the National Key R&D Program, Natural Science Foundation, and Social Science Foundation, and won more than 80 scientific research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, including 3 national science and technology awards. The school has vigorously strengthened the construction of the teaching staff, and the teaching staff has continued to grow. There are more than 1,600 teachers, including more than 800 doctors, more than 650 senior titles, more than 120 people in the National Important Talent Program, the State Council Government Special Allowance Experts, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Hundred Talents Program, the Provincial Academic and Technical Leaders, and the Provincial Outstanding Experts; more than 10 national model teachers, national meteorological teaching masters, provincial outstanding teachers, and provincial teaching masters. More than 100 academicians, "Yangtze River", "Jieqing" and other high-level experts are hired as part-time professors of our school. More than 20 teachers of our school serve as part-time doctoral supervisors outside the school. The school conscientiously implements the new era of education opening-up policy and the requirements of the "Belt and Road" for the internationalization of education, and adheres to open education. The university has signed cooperation agreements with more than 40 well-known universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Australia, Singapore, etc., and has established 6 international joint laboratories (joint research institutes) in cooperation with well-known foreign universities such as Colorado State University in the United States, the University of Huddersfield in the United Kingdom, and the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
