Fuzhou Melbourne Polytechnic is jointly run by Minjiang College and Melbourne Polytechnic, Australia, two public universities. It was established under the background of Comrade Xi Jinping's active promotion of friendly provincial and state relations with Tasmania, Australia during his tenure as governor of Fujian. Its predecessor was Minjiang College Ai'en International College, and it actually has a history of more than 20 years of Sino-foreign cooperative education. In January 2017, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education as a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution with independent legal personality and was renamed Fuzhou Melbourne Polytechnic. It is the only Sino-foreign cooperative higher vocational college in Fujian Province and one of the three Sino-foreign cooperative higher vocational colleges in the country with independent legal personality. It was rated as the only exemplary Sino-foreign cooperative education institution in Fujian Province and was selected as a construction unit of Fujian Province's "Double High Plan". The school introduces international high-quality educational resources, implements a diversified school-running model in line with international education, introduces Australia's century-old TAFE education and the advanced curriculum system of Melbourne Polytechnic, formulates talent training programs based on domestic reality, and carries out associate degree education (AD) and Australian vocational education (Diploma). Students who meet the graduation requirements of both institutions can obtain Sino-Australian dual certificates-Fuzhou Melbourne Polytechnic College Diploma and Australia Melbourne Polytechnic Associate Degree or Australian Diploma.
