Guangzhou University of Commerce is located in the northeast of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and in the southern core area of the "Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City". It was formerly the Zengcheng College of South China Normal University. In 1999, it became the first secondary college of the new mechanism in Guangdong Province and enrolled the first batch of freshmen; in 2002, it became the first private university in Guangdong Province to carry out undergraduate talent training; in 2004, it became the first batch of independent colleges in Guangdong Province and the first independent college in the country. The school became a bachelor's degree-granting institution in 2011; in 2014, it became the first ordinary undergraduate university in Guangdong Province converted from an independent college; in 2020, it became the only private university in Guangdong Province that passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2020; in 2021, it became the first batch of private universities in Guangdong Province to grant master's degrees; in 2023, it was approved as a supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation. The school has 13 colleges, including the School of Economics, School of Management, School of Accounting, School of Foreign Languages, School of Law, School of Information Technology and Engineering, School of Modern Information Industry, School of Digital Economy Industry, School of Art and Design, International College, School of Physical Education, School of Continuing Education, and School of Marxism. There are currently more than 28,000 full-time students. School conditions The school campus covers an area of more than 760,000 square meters, and the total school building area is more than 500,000 square meters. There are 2.98 million paper books and 20 electronic resource libraries (including local mirror libraries). The school currently has 2 provincial modern industry colleges (Modern Information Industry College and Digital Economy Industry College), 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 215 on-campus experimental and training centers (rooms), and 323 on-campus and off-campus practical teaching bases jointly built with government, banks and enterprises; the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment exceeds 120 million yuan; campus network and wireless network have covered the entire school. Talent cultivation The school adheres to the school motto of "seeking truth, establishing faith, and practicing", adheres to the four training methods of interdisciplinary, process digitalization, internationalization of teaching, and comprehensive education, aiming to cultivate high-quality application-oriented talents with four abilities of adaptation, organization, innovation, and happiness, and four characteristics of "broad vision", "broad caliber", "thick foundation", and "emphasis on practice" and with a high sense of social responsibility and mission. Actively explore the "first classroom" with ideological and political education, general courses, public courses, and professional courses as the core, and the "second classroom" with "Guangshang Lecture Hall", culture and aesthetic education, special academic lectures, social volunteer services, and social practice activities as the main activities. Actively carry out industry-university-research cooperation education, and there are 14 industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education; in recent years, students have participated in the national "Challenge Cup" series of competitions, "Internet +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Huawei ICT Global Competition and other subject competitions and have won good results. In the past four years, a total of 1,432 awards above the provincial level have been won, including 265 national awards and 1,167 provincial awards. The school's graduates have been widely recognized by the society and employers, and the employment rate of each year has been above 90%. Professional Construction The school has formed a discipline and professional layout of economics, management, engineering, literature, law, art, education and other disciplines that support each other, cross-integrate and develop in a coordinated manner. There are currently 38 undergraduate majors. E-commerce is a provincial key discipline, and law, e-commerce and finance are provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points. International economics and trade, finance, e-commerce, and accounting are provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot majors; accounting, law, and Internet finance are provincial specialty majors. There are currently 17 provincial first-class undergraduate courses. Faculty The school has always adhered to the strategy of "strengthening the school with talents" and has created a faculty team with good quality, high level and vitality. There are currently 2 national talent titles, more than 170 teachers with doctoral degrees, more than 1,000 teachers with master's degrees, and more than 360 teachers with senior professional titles. The school attaches great importance to scientific research. Through a series of measures such as early cultivation, strengthening guidance, and centralized tutoring, it creates a good scientific research environment for teachers, improves the scientific research level of the teaching staff, and plays a positive role in promoting social development and innovation. From 2018 to 2023, a total of 60 provincial and school-level scientific research platforms have been built, 217 scientific research projects at or above the department level have been approved, and a total of 3,152 academic papers have been published. From 2022 to 2023, the scientific research level of Guangzhou University of Business has been explosively improved, and 4 national scientific research projects (including 1 key project of the National Social Science Fund) and 7 education humanities and social science projects (including 1 key project of the Ministry of Education's Special Topics of Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture (Class A)) have been approved. According to the 2023 edition of the "Ranking of Scientific Research Competitiveness of Chinese Private Undergraduate Colleges Based on Value-added Evaluation" and the "Ranking of Scientific Research Competitiveness of Chinese Private Undergraduate Colleges Based on Strength Evaluation", Guangzhou University of Business ranks among the "Private Undergraduate Colleges with the Best Scientific Research Niche" and ranks 10th in the value-added evaluation of scientific research competitiveness among 385 private undergraduate colleges in the country. The school has always practiced the concept of "internationalization" and worked hard to build an international school brand. In the past 20 years of internationalization, the school has been at the forefront of similar institutions in Guangdong Province in terms of international exchanges and cooperation, and has trained 18 international project graduates. The school has established cooperative relations with 114 well-known universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and other countries and Hong Kong and Macao, forming an international education pattern of "preparatory, professional, undergraduate and master", and is one of the undergraduate universities with the most internationalized education levels in Guangdong. The school was awarded the title of "2017 Brand Competitiveness Sino-Foreign Cooperation Institutions" and was elected as the "Vice Chairman Unit of the Sino-Foreign Cooperation Research Branch of Guangdong Higher Education Society" in 2021.
