Guizhou University was founded in 1902. It went through the periods of Guizhou University Hall, Provincial Guizhou University, National Guizhou Agricultural and Engineering College, and National Guizhou University. It was named Guizhou University in October 1950. In November 1951, Chairman Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of "Guizhou University". In August 1997, it merged with Guizhou Agricultural College and other institutions. In August 2004, it merged with Guizhou University of Technology. After more than 120 years of construction and development, it has successively become a national "211 Project" university, a national "Double First-Class" construction university, and a "Ministry-Provincial Joint Construction" university of the Ministry of Education and the Guizhou Provincial People's Government; in 2021, the "Guizhou Provincial Government Work Report" clearly proposed for the first time to "strengthen Guizhou University". In November of the same year, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education and 11 other departments jointly issued the "Implementation Plan for Strengthening Guizhou University", proposing to build Guizhou University into a domestic first-class and internationally renowned comprehensive high-level university in accordance with the requirements of "Chinese characteristics, world-class standards, and Guizhou needs"; in 2023, the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government decided to "concentrate on strengthening Guizhou University" to lead and drive the high-quality development of Guizhou's higher education. The school is also one of the first "National Party Building Demonstration Universities", the first "National Civilized Campus" and the Ministry of Education's "Three-dimensional Education" comprehensive reform pilot units. There are more than 34,000 full-time undergraduate students, 2,809 full-time teachers, and more than 16,000 graduate students. The 40 colleges cover an area of 4,637.61 acres, and there is also a teaching experimental farm of 1,181.26 acres. The library has a total collection of more than 3.93 million books and more than 3.74 million electronic books. The university currently has 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, 42 national leading talents such as winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund Project, 57 national young talents such as national cultural celebrities and "four batches" talents of the Central Propaganda Department; 1 convener of the State Council Discipline Evaluation Group; 25 members of the Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 3 members of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education; 27 key contact experts and 93 contact experts of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee. One person has been selected into the list of "Highly Cited Scientists" in the world for 6 consecutive years; 3 people have been selected into the list of "Highly Cited Scholars in China" by Elsevier. The school currently has 1 national key laboratory, 1 provincial and ministerial co-constructed national key laboratory, 26 research platforms at or above the ministerial level, 55 provincial research platforms, 10 postdoctoral research mobile stations, 2 "Huang Danian-style teacher teams" in national universities, 30 national teaching platforms and 2 teaching teams, 2 teaching masters and 2 teaching teams of the Ministry of Education's ideological and political demonstration courses, and 1 studio of the Ministry of Education's ideological and political theory courses; 11 provincial teaching teams and 58 teaching masters, 14 provincial ideological and political demonstration courses and 14 teaching masters, 2 provincial ideological and political theory courses studios; 9 provincial humanities and social sciences research and demonstration bases. The university closely focuses on the main strategy of "four new" and "four modernizations" and the main positioning of "four districts and one highland", pays attention to cultivating and developing characteristic and advantageous disciplines, unswervingly writes scientific research papers on the land of Guizhou, and strives to contribute to the high-quality development of our province. The green pesticide and green pest control innovation team won the "National Advanced Collective for Poverty Alleviation", and the Party Committee of the College of Agriculture won the "National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization"; the results of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization have been awarded as typical cases of provincial universities by the Ministry of Education for four consecutive sessions. The school is a counterpart cooperation university of Zhejiang University, China Agricultural University, and East China Normal University. The school actively promotes the development of higher education in Guizhou and carries out counterpart cooperation with universities in 9 cities (prefectures) in Guizhou Province. At the same time, it has signed comprehensive cooperation agreements with more than 500 enterprises and scientific research units such as Moutai Group, Da Bei Nong Group, National Astronomical Observatory, Guangxi Tianyuan Biochemical Co., Ltd., Phosphate Group, China Tobacco Guizhou Branch, Guiyang Agricultural Investment Group, and Jiangsu Fengshan Group. The school implements the action plans of Guizhou Province such as "Support for Scientific and Technological Talents in Three Regions", "Science and Technology Special Envoy Action", "Doctor Village Head", "Professors and Doctors Entering Enterprises", deepens the cooperation between the school and the local government, and between the school and enterprises, and improves the level of cooperation. The school-local cooperation covers all districts and counties in 9 cities (prefectures) in the province. The school adheres to the principle of open education and continuously promotes international exchanges and cooperation. At present, it has signed cooperation agreements with 195 colleges and scientific research institutions in 43 countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has 2 national "111" intelligence introduction bases; it is the Ministry of Education's foreign aid base, the Ministry of Science and Technology's international science and technology cooperation base, the Chinese government scholarship school, and the international Chinese teacher scholarship school. It has successively established the Confucius Institute at the University of Gambia and the Chinese Language Teaching Center at Presby College in the United States, and co-organized Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions and projects with universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Thailand.
