Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, founded in 1958, was originally named Guizhou College of Finance and Economics. In 2012, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed as the current name. It is a key training base for economic management talents in Guizhou Province built by the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government. Professor Hong Yinxing, a famous economist, winner of the "Sun Yefang Economics Award", and former Party Secretary of Nanjing University, serves as the Honorary President of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics. The school adheres to the Guizhou spirit of "hard work, rigorous and pragmatic, and carrying heavy burdens to achieve long-term goals", abides by the school motto of "virtue, erudition, practice, and innovation", and adheres to the service positioning of "based in Guizhou, facing the southwest, and radiating the whole country". It is committed to cultivating "Confucian soul business talents" for "enriching the people and revitalizing Guizhou". It has trained more than 100,000 outstanding talents for the country and society, and has made positive contributions to the economic and social development of the southwest region, the "Pearl River Delta", the "Yangtze River Delta" and the development of China's securities industry. The school covers a total area of 5,939 acres. The university hosts the School of Big Data Statistics jointly run by the National Bureau of Statistics and the Guizhou Provincial Government, the Western Michigan College of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, a Sino-foreign cooperatively-run school approved by the Ministry of Education, and three postdoctoral research stations and a national-level continuing education base for professional and technical personnel in the fields of "Business Administration", "Theoretical Economics" and "Public Administration" approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The university has 20 colleges and currently has 21,916 full-time students, including 115 doctoral students, 3,193 master's students, 18,572 undergraduates, and 31 international students. There are 1,998 faculty members, including 1,363 full-time teachers, 760 teachers with senior professional titles, 702 teachers with doctoral degrees, 72 doctoral supervisors, 2 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 5 experts enjoying special government allowances from the provincial government, 2 key contact experts of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, 11 contact experts of the Provincial Party Committee, 1 Qianling Scholar, 22 Guizhou Province Golden Teachers, 11 "Western Light" visiting scholars; 5 Guizhou Province high-level innovative "hundred" level talents, 13 thousand-level talents. The school adheres to the coordinated development of discipline and professional construction, with 3 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 11 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 15 master's professional degree authorization categories, 3 domestic first-class construction discipline groups, 8 first-class construction disciplines in Guizhou Province, 3 key support disciplines for the strengthening action of science and engineering disciplines in Guizhou Province, 6 provincial characteristic key disciplines, and 10 provincial key disciplines. There are 69 undergraduate majors covering 8 disciplines, including 19 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 6 national characteristic majors, 18 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 9 provincial demonstration majors, and 4 provincial characteristic majors. The school adheres to the overall strategic layout of "12+1+N" disciplines, forming a "one body and two wings" multi-disciplinary coordinated development of a financial university with "economics and management" disciplines as the main body, "science and engineering" disciplines and "liberal arts" disciplines as the two wings, and sociology, education, art, sports, journalism and communication as the characteristics. The school adheres to open education and continuously expands exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad. Western Michigan College of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, jointly established with Western Michigan University in the United States, is the first Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institution at the undergraduate level in Guizhou Province, with three undergraduate majors; it cooperates with Edinburgh Napier University in the United Kingdom and Marshall University in the United States to organize two Sino-foreign cooperatively-run undergraduate programs; it cooperates with the China Scholarship Council to organize the Undergraduate Academic Recognition Course (ISEC) program, with enrollment in three undergraduate majors; it has been approved as a project funded by the China Scholarship Council, the "Regional and Country Research Talent Support Program (Project-based)"; and currently has 5,261 undergraduate students in cooperatively-run schools. At the new historical starting point, the school will adhere to the leadership of the Party, adhere to the socialist direction of running schools, adhere to the moral education of people, focus on the development strategy of "one center, two major projects, and three simultaneous transformations" proposed by the Second Party Congress, take "academic school-building" as the foundation, "service-driven school-building" as the core, "talent-driven school-building" as the key, and "digital school-building" as the driving force, strengthen the construction of "humanistic wealth" and "ecological wealth", work hard, forge ahead, continuously improve the ability to cultivate talents, improve the level of scientific research, actively serve economic and social development, deeply promote cultural inheritance and innovation, continuously expand international exchanges and cooperation, and strive to build Guizhou University of Finance and Economics into a distinctive and high-level university of finance and economics.
