Handan University is located in Handan, Hebei Province, a national historical and cultural city, a national excellent tourist city, a holy place for Tai Chi, and a capital of idioms and allusions. It is a public full-time general undergraduate college. The history of the school began with the establishment of Handan County Junior Normal School in 1905. It was upgraded to Handan Normal College in 1982, upgraded to an undergraduate college in 2004 and named Handan University. It passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2012, was listed as a project construction unit for the master's degree awarding authority in Hebei Province in 2016, and passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2017. The school currently has 1,229 faculty and staff, 381 professors and associate professors, and 909 doctors and masters. There are 18,051 full-time undergraduate students and 9,329 adult education students. There are 20 secondary colleges (centers), 63 undergraduate majors (including Sino-foreign cooperative education projects), involving 10 major disciplines. The campus covers an area of 1,193 acres, with a building area of 586,000 square meters. The total value of the school's teaching and scientific research equipment assets is 230 million yuan, and there are more than 1.7 million paper books. It is a national advanced greening unit and a civilized campus in Hebei Province. The school takes moral education as its fundamental task, and adheres to the service-oriented positioning of "based in Handan, serving the society, inheriting culture and educating teachers, and integrating industry". It has 1 national characteristic major, 1 national first-class undergraduate major construction site, 11 provincial first-class major construction sites, 3 provincial key development disciplines, 2 national first-class courses, 7 provincial first-class courses, 33 national and provincial quality engineering projects, 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 12 provincial teaching achievement awards, 18 provincial and municipal scientific research platforms, and 4 provincial science popularization bases. In recent years, it has been approved for 28 national projects such as the National Social Science Fund, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Art Fund, and won 11 provincial awards such as the Hebei Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award and the Science and Technology Progress Award. The school's six majors, including English, Chemistry, Preschool Education, Biological Sciences, Chinese Language and Literature, and Special Education, have passed the second-level certification of teacher education majors, and 13 majors have been included in the scope of the Ministry of Education's reform of teacher education students' exemption from examination. In cooperation with the University of Ecology and Management in Warsaw, Poland, an undergraduate major in environmental ecological engineering was organized. Students have won 387 national and provincial awards in various competitions such as subject competitions, "Challenge Cup" and "Internet +". The "Qingma Project" college student backbone training course, "Yanzhao Youth Says" college student inspirational speech competition, "Qingma Red Ma Zha" youth lectures, and De Neng Lecture Hall have been reported by national media many times.
