Hanshan Normal College (hereinafter referred to as the school) began as the "Hui Chao Jia Normal School" founded in the 29th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1903). Its predecessor can be traced back to the "Hanshan Academy" established by Chaozhou people in the Song Dynasty to commemorate Han Yu, a great Tang Dynasty writer who served as the governor of Chaozhou. It is the first batch of normal schools in China and the first in Guangdong to train teachers. The school was renamed Guangdong Provincial Second Normal School in 1921, Guangdong Provincial Hanshan Normal School in 1935, Hanshan Normal School in 1949, Hanshan Normal College in 1958, and upgraded to an undergraduate school in 1993 with the approval of the State Education Commission and renamed Hanshan Normal College. It is a Guangdong provincial undergraduate normal college with a long history and distinctive characteristics. The school is located in Chaozhou, a national historical and cultural city with the reputation of "China's Porcelain Capital". In its more than 100 years of history, it has formed the school motto of "diligent teaching and learning, and being a role model for others", as well as the characteristics of Hanshi people, "the patriotic and hometown-loving school, the teacher's spirit of teaching and learning, the quality of scholars seeking truth and righteousness, and the spiritual realm of benevolence, enterprising and sincere", highlighting the school's characteristics of "taking root in Chaozhou for a hundred years and cultivating teacher education". Alumni are all over the world, and a group of outstanding figures have emerged, such as the master of Chinese studies, Rao Zongyi, the master of Lingnan Ci, Zhan Antai, the first president of Sun Yat-sen University, Zou Lu, the famous philosopher Chen Weishi, the international photography master Chen Fuli, the patriotic industrialist Chen Weinan in Hong Kong, the Malaysian industrialist Lin Jinhua, the Thai industrialist Chen Hanshi, the famous calligraphy educator Chen Qiquan in Taiwan, the winner of the Medal of the Republic and the father of China's nuclear submarine, Huang Xuhua, the first-class hero model of the National People's Police, Zhu Mingjian, etc. In particular, it has provided a large number of excellent teachers and other talents to Guangdong and surrounding provinces, making important contributions to local education and economic and social development. The school campus covers an area of 987,000 square meters and a building area of 465,100 square meters. It has 17 secondary colleges such as the School of Literature and Journalism and Communication and the Guangdong Ceramics Vocational and Technical School, 60 undergraduate majors (including major categories), covering 9 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. It has 4 provincial key disciplines, 3 provincial key disciplines for "strengthening and strengthening", 3 national featured majors and comprehensive reform pilots, 10 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 23 provincial featured majors, comprehensive reform pilots and applied talent training demonstration majors, 7 IEET-certified majors, 3 majors of chemistry, biological sciences and history have passed the second-level certification of the Ministry of Education's teacher training majors, 2 provincial talent training model innovation experimental zones, 1 provincial collaborative education platform, 2 provincial industrial colleges, 30 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and college student training bases, 53 provincial demonstration teacher education practice bases, 15 provincial-level high-quality video open courses and high-quality resource sharing courses, 4 provincial-level high-quality online open courses, 5 provincial-level online open courses, 2 provincial-level series online open courses, and 21 provincial-level first-class courses. There is a multifunctional information library with an area of nearly 30,000 square meters, 2.25 million paper books and 1.1432 million electronic books. The school is the "China Chaozhou Cuisine Research and Development and Talent Training Base", and the supporting unit for the construction of the Chaozhou Branch of the Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Chemistry and Fine Chemicals (ceramic materials, food science and technology); it has 19 provincial scientific research platforms such as the Key Laboratory of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of Guangdong Provincial Ordinary Colleges and Universities, the Guangdong Local Characteristic Culture Research Base, the first batch of Guangdong Provincial Colleges and Universities Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base, the Provincial Social Science Association Research Base, the Engineering Technology Research Center of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the City-School Co-construction Platform (Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology One Issue One Discussion Project); it has established four central government special funds for scientific research platforms such as the Guangdong East Analysis and Testing Center, the New Functional Materials and Their Application Technology Research Platform, the Chaoshan Intangible Cultural Heritage Database R&D Center, and the Advanced Ceramic Materials Engineering Technology R&D Center; there are 28 school-level scientific research platforms such as the Guangdong East Biomedical Engineering Technology Research Center, the Guangdong East Physics Basic Education Research Center, the Guangdong East Rural Revitalization Research Institute, the "Han School Famous Teacher Project" Research Base, and the Chaoshan Tourism Culture and Planning Key Laboratory.
