Hohai University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education with a history of more than 100 years, featuring water conservancy, engineering as the main subject, and multi-disciplinary coordinated development. Hohai University originated from the Hohai Engineering Vocational School founded in 1915 by Zhang Jian, a famous patriotic industrialist and educator in modern times. It is the first institution of higher learning in China to train water conservancy talents and pioneered water conservancy higher education in China. Proletarian revolutionaries such as Zhang Wentian and Shen Zemin once studied in Hehai and embarked on the road of revolution from here. In 1924, it merged with the Engineering Department of Southeast University to establish Hohai University of Technology.
