[Historical Evolution] Hohhot Nationalities University is located in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is a university directly under the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a key university of the autonomous region, and a university jointly built by the autonomous region’s people’s government and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. The school was established in 1953 with the care and support of Comrade Ulanhu. Its predecessor was Inner Mongolia Mongolian Language College and Inner Mongolia Nationalities Normal School. In 2000, it merged to form Inner Mongolia Nationalities College. In 2009, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Hohhot Nationalities University. In 2016, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education. The school was included in the Inner Mongolia Education "14th Five-Year Plan" plan for new master's degree construction units. In 2023, it became an applied transformation university in the autonomous region during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, and a pilot university for total personnel control in the autonomous region. As the earliest ethnic college founded in Inner Mongolia, the school has always adhered to the original mission of "educating people for the party and cultivating talents for the country", taking the forging of a strong sense of community of the Chinese nation as the main line, implementing the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, and taking national unity and progress education as the brightest background for the development of the school. In the 70 years of running the school, 50,000 graduates have been trained. They have taken root in Inner Mongolia and become outstanding talents who are "reliable, down-to-earth and good at doing things" in the border areas, making due contributions to regional economic and social development, ethnic unity and progress, and prosperity and stability in the border areas. The school has won the honorary title of advanced collective for ethnic unity and progress of the country and the autonomous region 10 times. The school building area is 265,981 square meters, with 1.0746 million paper books, 1.2027 million electronic books, and a total fixed asset value of 661 million yuan, of which the teaching and scientific research equipment is worth 237 million yuan. [Talent Training] The school has 17 secondary colleges, including 2 key disciplines of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, namely, education and mathematics, and 2 key disciplines of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, namely, the history of Chinese ethnic minorities and the language and literature of Chinese ethnic minorities (translation). There are currently 42 undergraduate majors and 6 junior college majors, covering 8 disciplines including education, science, engineering, law, literature, art, economics, and management. There are two national first-class undergraduate majors in mathematics and applied mathematics and preschool education, and nine autonomous region first-class undergraduate majors in primary education, ideological and political education, computer science and technology, data science and big data technology, water quality science and technology, journalism, and translation. There are 14 autonomous region first-class courses, 7 autonomous region quality courses, and 10 autonomous region online open courses. The school recruits students nationwide and currently has 9,915 full-time students, including 9,191 undergraduates and 724 junior college students. Focusing on forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, many theoretical articles have been published in the "China Nationalities Newspaper" and "Inner Mongolia Daily". The journal "Mongolian Studies" is a comprehensive academic journal. It has won the "National Excellent Journal of Ethnic Languages in Ethnic Areas", "Northern Excellent Journal" and "The First Inner Mongolia Publishing Award", and has a high reputation in the field of Mongolian studies. [Social Service] The school closely focuses on the five major tasks assigned to Inner Mongolia by General Secretary Xi Jinping, continuously optimizes the discipline and professional structure, and promotes the implementation of the five major tasks in rural revitalization, digital ecology, and environmental protection.
