Hubei University is a provincial key comprehensive university jointly established by the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education, a "domestic first-class university construction university" in Hubei Province, and a university in the national "basic capacity building project for colleges and universities in central and western China". 1. Historical evolution In 1931, the predecessor of the school, Hubei Provincial Education College, was born in Baoji Temple, Wuchang. Since then, it has gone through the periods of National Hubei Normal College, Hubei Provincial Education College, Hubei Provincial Teachers' Continuing Education College, Hubei Normal College, Wuhan Normal College and Wuhan Normal College. Nine decades of hard work, six changes of school site, eight changes of school name, the torch has been passed down, and the cultural heritage has not stopped, and the teacher education has a profound foundation. In 1984, Wuhan Normal College was renamed and rebuilt into Hubei University, and began to transform from a single normal college into a comprehensive university. Since 2013, the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education have jointly established Hubei University. 2. Campus Overview The school has the main campus in Wuchang, Hankou campus, and Yangluo campus, covering an area of 1,500 acres. The school is located in Wuhan, which is known as the "City of a Hundred Lakes". It is adjacent to the vast Yangtze River. The campus is lush with trees, the environment is beautiful, the humanistic atmosphere is strong, and the teaching and scientific research service facilities are well-established. 3. The disciplines and majors are complete. It covers 13 major disciplines except military science, with 24 disciplinary colleges, 81 undergraduate enrollment majors, 9 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 8 postdoctoral research stations, 31 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 22 master's professional degree authorization categories, 33 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 6 national characteristic professional construction sites, and 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot project. Biology was selected as the "first-class discipline key construction discipline" in Hubei Province, 3 disciplines were selected as the "domestic first-class discipline construction discipline" in Hubei Province, and 4 discipline groups were selected as the "14th Five-Year Plan" Hubei Higher Education Institutions Advantageous and Characteristic Discipline Groups. Six disciplines, including materials science, chemistry, engineering, botany and zoology, environment/ecology, biology and biochemistry, are among the top 1% in the world in the ESI discipline rankings, eight disciplines are selected as the world's best disciplines by USNews, and six disciplines are selected as world-class disciplines by Soft Science. IV. Talent training There are more than 21,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 11,000 doctoral and master's students. Since 2006, the school has launched the "First-Class Undergraduate Education", "Graduate Education Quality Improvement Plan", "Top-notch Innovative Talent Training Plan" and the "Ten-Year Talent Training Plan" for undergraduate, master and doctoral training, respectively, to explore the reform of general education and implement the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people. A number of national-level innovation and entrepreneurship colleges, industry-education integration bases, basic discipline talent training and scientific research bases, experimental teaching demonstration centers, professional degree graduate joint training demonstration bases, science and technology courtyards, college students' off-campus practical education bases, and college students' cultural quality education bases have been established. A total of 7 national teaching achievement awards, 113 provincial teaching achievement awards, 23 national first-class undergraduate courses, 63 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 2 national teaching teams, 13 provincial teaching teams, 2 virtual teaching and research office construction pilot projects of the Ministry of Education, 23 provincial excellent teaching grassroots organizations, 1 provincial modern industrial college, and 3 provincial excellent engineers school-enterprise joint training projects have been approved. 5 national new engineering and new liberal arts research projects, 2 curriculum ideological and political demonstration projects of the Ministry of Education, 398 industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education, 5 theme cases of the China Professional Degree Case Center, and 3 provincial excellent engineers school-enterprise joint training projects have been approved. In recent years, the school has strengthened the construction of new engineering, new liberal arts and teacher education around the major national strategies and the development needs of Hubei, and established a number of new engineering colleges and normal colleges. Since its establishment, it has trained and sent more than 300,000 senior professionals of various types. 5. The faculty team has more than 1,600 teachers, including more than 1,000 full and associate professors, nearly 250 doctoral supervisors, and more than 1,100 master's supervisors. There are 473 high-level talents of all levels and types, including 81 national and ministerial talents, and 392 provincial and municipal talents. VI. Scientific Research and Social Services The school has established four national platforms, including the National Key Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for High-Throughput Screening Technology for Drugs, the National Demonstration Base for Innovative Talent Training, and the Innovation and Intelligence Base for Energy Capture and Environmental Sensing Green Technology Disciplines. It has participated in the establishment of the Hubei Applied Mathematics Center and co-built the National Ecological Quality Comprehensive Monitoring Station "Hubei Enshi Station (Forest)". It has established one provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center (organic chemical new materials), three key laboratories of the Ministry of Education (green preparation and application of functional materials, synthesis and application of organic functional molecules, intelligent perception systems and safety), and more than 60 provincial and municipal key scientific and technological innovation platforms such as Hubei Provincial Key Laboratories, Engineering Research Centers, Engineering Laboratories, International Science and Technology Cooperation Bases, and Industrial Technology Innovation Consortiums. It has deeply participated in the construction of four Hubei laboratories, including Jiangcheng, Jiangxia, Hongshan, and Shizhen, and has been approved as 7 provincial popular science education bases. The school's science and technology achievement transformation center has been registered at the provincial and municipal levels. It has 24 provincial and ministerial research platforms, including the Collaborative Innovation Center for the Development of Chinese Culture, the China Ecotourism Research Base, and the Hubei Digital Culture and Tourism Research Institute. It has also established high-level research platforms at the school level, such as the Institute of Advanced Humanities, the Institute of Regional and Country Studies (Latin American Research Institute). Among them, the County Governance Research Institute, the Hubei Cultural Construction Research Institute, and the Hubei Basic Education Research Institute are key think tanks for Hubei Province. In the past five years, it has been approved as the first unit to win three first prizes in science and technology, more than 20 major key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and key R&D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It has been approved for 13 major projects of the National Social Science Fund, 13 major research projects of the Ministry of Education's philosophy and social sciences, 8 outstanding scientific research achievements awards (humanities and social sciences) of the Ministry of Education, 3 first prizes of Hubei Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievements Awards, and more than 100 other provincial and ministerial social science outstanding achievements awards. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the school has implemented the "Double Ten Action" plan in depth, established 9 overseas industrial technology research institutions in coastal areas outside the province and in many places in Hubei, and accelerated the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements to serve local development. VII. Campus culture construction A book-scented campus, focusing on educating people with culture. It has won the first prize for outstanding achievements in campus culture construction in colleges and universities and the award for outstanding achievements in network culture for many times, and has been named "Top Ten Book-loving Campuses in Hubei Province" for three consecutive times. The university's five-a-side football team has won the national championship 16 times, represented China in the World University Five-a-side Football Championship 5 times and achieved the best results in history. The university's dragon and lion dance troupe has toured abroad 9 times to showcase Chinese traditional culture and won 2 championships in the World Dragon and Lion Dance Championship. In the past five years, students have repeatedly achieved outstanding results in major events such as the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Competition, the China International College Student Innovation Competition, the Mathematical Modeling Competition, the Electronic Design Competition, the College English Competition, the College Student Art Festival, and the "Three Going to the Countryside" summer social practice. Among them, they won a national special prize in the "Challenge Cup" College Student Academic Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Competition, which is a historic breakthrough. 8. International Exchange The school has established academic exchanges, talent training and scientific research cooperation with more than 150 universities and research institutions in more than 40 countries and regions. It has cooperated with Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK to establish the Hubei University-Manchester Joint College, and has established 3 Confucius Institutes (Confucius Classrooms) in Brazil, Sao Tome and Principe, and Poland. The school recruits international students all year round and can provide Chinese government scholarships, international Chinese teacher scholarships, and Hubei Province International Student Scholarships. 9. Development Goals During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the school is taking "dual breakthroughs in discipline construction and comprehensive strength" as its development goal, and strives to build a high-level comprehensive university that is well-known in China and has a certain influence internationally.
