Hunan Agricultural University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the People's Government of Hunan Province, a national civilized campus, and a first-class university in Hunan Province (Class A). Academician Yuan Longping, the "Father of Hybrid Rice", once served as the honorary president of the school. The predecessor of the school was Xiuye School, founded in 1903, where Zhou Zhenlin, Huang Xing, Xu Teli, Mao Zedong and others taught successively. In March 1951, Hunan Provincial Xiuye Agricultural and Forestry College, which developed from Xiuye School, merged with the Agricultural College of Hunan University to form Hunan Agricultural College, and Chairman Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of the school. In March 1994, it was renamed Hunan Agricultural University. After 120 years of ups and downs, the school has been forging ahead, always adhering to the tradition of loving agriculture for agriculture, and practicing the mission of strengthening agriculture and promoting agriculture. It has now developed into a teaching and research university with agronomy as the main body and coordinated and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The school has 22 colleges, 1 independent college, graduate school and continuing education college, and the disciplines cover 10 major categories including agriculture, engineering, literature, science, economics, management, law, medicine, education, and art. The ESI rankings of 7 disciplines, including plant and animal sciences, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences and ecology, chemistry, engineering, biology and biochemistry, and materials science, are among the top 1% in the world. There are 11 postdoctoral research stations, 11 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 23 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, and 15 categories of master's professional degree authorization. It is one of the first units in the country to obtain the right to confer master's degrees; there are 79 undergraduate majors, including 21 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 19 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites; it has won 16 national teaching achievement awards and 135 provincial teaching achievement awards; there are currently 35,138 ordinary full-time undergraduate students (including 4,945 independent colleges) and 7,630 graduate students. There are 2,604 faculty members, 998 faculty members with senior professional titles, and 2,057 faculty members with master's degrees or above. There are 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 44 national talents, and 415 provincial talents. The school is one of the first pilot construction units of the National New Rural Development Research Institute, and is the chairman unit of the "Wuling Mountain, Luoxiao Mountain and Hunan-Jiangxi Border Area Rural Revitalization Science and Education Alliance". It has taken the lead in establishing 1 national "2011" collaborative innovation center, 2 provincial and ministerial co-construction "2011" collaborative innovation centers, and 3 provincial "2011" collaborative innovation centers; 9 national scientific research platforms and 89 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms. The school has established close ties with more than 130 universities and institutions in more than 40 countries, and has carried out extensive personnel exchanges, teaching and scientific research cooperation. It has carried out educational cooperation with more than 40 universities such as the University of Montreal in Canada, the University of Hawaii in the United States, the University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom, and the University of Kagoshima in Japan. It is one of the earliest universities in Hunan Province to start Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. In 1999, it obtained the qualification to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to study in China, and is one of the first universities in the country to pass the quality certification for studying in China.
