Hunan Mass Media Vocational and Technical College is a public media vocational college established in accordance with the "front and backyard" model on the basis of the former Hunan Banking School and Hunan Education Television Station. It was formally established in July 2000. In 2002, the former Changsha County Teachers' Training School was merged into it; in 2004, the former Hunan Provincial Radio and Television School was merged as a whole. The college is jointly established by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education, the Hunan Provincial Radio and Television Bureau, and the Hunan Radio and Television Station, and is under the management of the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. It is now one of the first batch of national backbone vocational colleges, one of the first batch of excellent vocational colleges in Hunan Province, the "International Chinese Language and Culture Communication Base" established by Hanban in Hunan, the Chinese host school of the Maldives Virā College Chinese Center (Confucius Institute), and the program production base of Hunan Radio and Television Station. It is known as the cradle of the "Radio and Television Hunan Army". The college focuses on the construction of three major specialty groups of news publishing and radio and television, animation and art design, and new media technology. It recruits students from 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country, and currently has more than 11,000 students. The college has six secondary colleges, including the School of Journalism and Communication, the School of Film and Television Arts, the School of Visual Arts, the School of New Media Technology, the School of Management, and the School of International Communication, and two teaching departments, the Department of Ideological and Political Courses and the Department of Physical Education, and implements two-level management of the school and the college (department). There are 683 faculty members, including 198 teachers with senior professional titles and 431 doctors and masters. The main campus of the college is located in the Xingsha National Economic and Technological Development Zone in Changsha City, adjacent to the Hunan Radio and Television Center. It is a newly built environmentally friendly, intelligent and green campus, and has won the titles of "Hunan Civilized Unit" and "Hunan Garden-style Unit". The college is a test site for the national radio and television editors, reporters, announcers and hosts qualification examinations, and an IELTS test site.
