Inner Mongolia Normal University (formerly Inner Mongolia Normal College) is the earliest institution of higher learning established by the Party and the State in frontier ethnic minority areas after the founding of New China. It is a key university of the autonomous region, a college supported by the national "Revitalization Plan for Higher Education in Central and Western China", and a school under the Ministry of Education's "Plan for Counterpart Support to Colleges and Universities in Western Regions". On November 20, 1951, the People's Government of the Autonomous Region decided to build Inner Mongolia Normal College in Ulanhot City and enroll students in 1952. In August 1954, the school moved west to Hohhot City and merged with Inner Mongolia Normal College, which was formed by the merger of Zhangjiakou Teachers College and Suiyuan Teachers College in August 1953, to become the new Inner Mongolia Normal College. In 1978, the school began to enroll graduate students. In 1982, it was renamed "Inner Mongolia Normal University" and was listed as a key university in the autonomous region. In 2000, Inner Mongolia Education College was merged into the school. In 2006, the school was approved as a first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point. After several generations of hard work and practical exploration, it has become an important base for cultivating basic education teachers in the autonomous region, and is the autonomous region's basic education teacher training center, primary and secondary school teacher continuing education center, and basic education reform and development research center. The school has Saihan Campus and Shengle Campus, covering a total area of 2.228 million square meters, a school building area of 1.07 million square meters, and a total fixed asset value of more than 3.85 billion yuan, of which the total value of teaching equipment is more than 800 million yuan. The library has a collection of more than 2.88 million books, more than 2.39 million electronic books and electronic journals, more than 1,400 Chinese and foreign journals, and more than 80 Chinese and foreign databases. The school has 22 party and government management agencies, 2 mass organizations, 5 teaching auxiliary agencies, 26 teaching institutions, 2 cooperatively-run colleges, and 5 affiliated schools. There are 2,061 faculty members (excluding cooperative education), including 1,353 full-time teachers, 725 full-time teachers with doctoral degrees, accounting for 53.58% of the total number of full-time teachers, 258 full-time teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 19.07% of the total number of full-time teachers, and 477 full-time teachers with associate senior professional titles, accounting for 35.25% of the total number of full-time teachers; there are 126 doctoral supervisors, 1,208 master supervisors, 23 autonomous region-level teaching masters, and 39 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the national and autonomous region levels. From 2002 to date, one national "Yangtze River Scholar", five "Million Talents Project", three national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan", five national young talents, 163 people (times) of the autonomous region's "New Century 321 Talent Project", 35 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, and 86 people (times) and 15 teams have been funded by the autonomous region's "Grassland Talents" project. One of the second batch of "Huang Danian-style teaching teams in national universities" was selected. Nearly 560 famous experts and scholars at home and abroad, including 7 academicians of the two academies and 5 academicians, have been hired as academic consultants, visiting professors and part-time professors. The school has 24,031 full-time undergraduate students (excluding cooperative education), 5,119 master's and doctoral students, 403 adult education students of various types, and 183 international students, forming a multi-level talent training system. 95 undergraduate majors are offered (including 27 general teacher majors, 21 vocational education teacher majors, and 81 majors for enrollment in 2023), covering 10 major disciplines. The school has 1 national-level boutique course, 1 national-level boutique video open course, 11 national-level first-class undergraduate courses, 2 national-level teaching teams, and 6 characteristic professional construction sites of the Ministry of Education; there is 1 national-level "comprehensive reform pilot for majors", 1 autonomous region-level "comprehensive reform pilot for majors", 32 autonomous region-level brand majors, and 4 autonomous region key construction majors. There are 78 high-quality courses in the autonomous region, 17 teaching teams at the autonomous region level, and 10 experimental teaching demonstration centers at the autonomous region level. There are 22 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites and 11 autonomous region first-class undergraduate professional construction sites. There is a key research base for undergraduate talent training in ethnic minority areas of the National Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education to build a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation. There is one national modern industrial college, one autonomous region-level basic discipline top student training base, and it has been approved as a national innovation and entrepreneurship college construction unit. The school has 8 first-level disciplines with doctoral degree awarding rights, 3 postdoctoral research mobile stations, 26 first-level disciplines with master's degree awarding rights, and 16 master's professional degrees; there are 4 autonomous region "first-class top-notch cultivation disciplines", 18 autonomous region key disciplines and key cultivation disciplines; it has the qualification of recommendation for admission without examination for master's students. The school has 58 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms. Among them, there is one research base for the Chinese nation community of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, one key laboratory (cultivation) of the Ministry of Education, three country and regional research centers of the Ministry of Education, four key research bases for philosophy and social sciences in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, one research base for building a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation in the autonomous region, one applied mathematics research center in the autonomous region, seven key laboratories in the autonomous region, three engineering technology research centers in the autonomous region, three academician and expert workstations in the autonomous region, one makerspace in the autonomous region, 14 key research bases for humanities and social sciences in institutions of higher learning in the autonomous region (including cultivation), five key laboratories in institutions of higher learning in the autonomous region, two collaborative innovation centers in institutions of higher learning in the autonomous region, one engineering research center in institutions of higher learning in the autonomous region, four engineering research centers (engineering laboratories) in the autonomous region, three bases for the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture in the autonomous region, one social science innovation platform (key laboratory) in the autonomous region, one new think tank in universities in the autonomous region, one research base for intangible cultural heritage in the autonomous region, and one scientist spirit education base of seven ministries and commissions including the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. In the 72 years since its establishment, the school has adhered to the school motto of "dedication, truth-seeking, unity and progress" and has trained and sent more than 300,000 graduates of various types. The school insists on open education and has signed inter-school friendly cooperation agreements with 56 universities in 14 countries and regions including Russia, Mongolia, South Korea, Japan, Australia, the United States, Belarus, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and has established good cooperative relations with more than 100 well-known domestic universities, scientific research institutions, enterprises and institutions. There is one Confucius Institute in Russia, one Confucius Institute and one Confucius Classroom in Mongolia. The school is a postgraduate training unit for Chinese international education. In the new historical development stage, the school is taking on the mission of "strengthening the country must first strengthen the teacher", based on the new development stage, implementing the new development concept, building a new development pattern, and going all out to promote the school's connotation-based high-quality development, and making unremitting efforts to build the school into a first-class comprehensive normal university with distinctive characteristics of teacher education.
