Jilin Agricultural University is located in Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province. It is a provincial key university in Jilin Province, a high-level applied research university with Jilin characteristics (Class A), a university jointly built by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, a supporting unit for the construction of the "Jilin Institute of China's Engineering Technology Development Strategy" jointly built by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a university of basic capacity building projects for colleges and universities in central and western China; the first batch of provincial universities in the "Higher Education Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Plan" ("111" Plan) of the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, a national typical employment experience university, the first batch of 50 "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Typical Experience Universities", the first batch of 99 national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, and the first batch of 100 national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base construction units, and the first batch of scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of Jilin Agricultural University was the Agricultural Cadre School established by the Northeast Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Heilongjiang Province in 1948. It was upgraded to Heilongjiang Agricultural College in 1950 and upgraded to Bei'an Agricultural College in 1956, starting a four-year undergraduate education. In 1958, Bei'an Agricultural College, Changchun University of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, and the Preparatory Office of Changchun Agricultural College merged to form Changchun Agricultural College, and Premier Zhou Enlai personally wrote the name of the school. In 1959, the school was renamed Jilin Agricultural University. After 76 years of construction and development, it has become a provincial key university with agriculture and life sciences as its advantages and characteristics, and coordinated development of agriculture, science, engineering, medicine, literature, management, law, education, economics, and art. It is an irreplaceable and important talent training, scientific and technological innovation, and promotion service base for national and regional agricultural and rural development. The school has 22 colleges, 1 directly affiliated teaching department and 1 graduate school. It is one of the first universities in my country with the right to confer bachelor's and master's degrees, and the first university among provincial universities to be authorized to confer doctoral degrees. It has 10 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees and 9 postdoctoral research stations; 20 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 12 master's professional degree authorization categories; 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 3 ministerial key disciplines, 13 provincial characteristic high-level disciplines and 2 disciplines approved for construction of Jilin Province's "World-Class Discipline Cultivation Plan"; 5 disciplines, including botany and animal science, agricultural science, chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, and environment and ecology, are among the top 1% in the ESI global ranking. The school currently has 1,774 faculty and staff, including 1 national teaching master, 23 recipients of national major talent projects (projects), 35 State Council special allowance experts, 6 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the country, 7 candidates for the national "Million Talent Project", 6 new century outstanding talents of the Ministry of Education, and 3 young and middle-aged science and technology innovation leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology. There are 6 members of the Discipline Evaluation Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and 8 members of the Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education. There are 27 senior experts in Jilin Province, 7 distinguished professors and 5 visiting professors of "Changbai Mountain Scholars" in Jilin Province, 52 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Jilin Province, 65 top innovative talents in Jilin Province, and 3 counselors of the Jilin Provincial Government. There is 1 "Yangtze River Scholar Innovation Team" of the Ministry of Education, 1 national excellent teaching team, 2 "Huang Danian-style teacher teams" in national universities, 3 "Huang Danian-style teacher teams" in Jilin universities, and 1 "Huang Danian-style scientific research team". In 2018, it was approved as a "national expert service base". The school currently has 23,576 full-time students, including 18,421 undergraduates, 4,506 master's students, 583 doctoral students, and 66 international students. There are 11,634 correspondence students. There are 73 undergraduate majors, 15 national first-class undergraduate major construction point majors, 7 national characteristic majors, 2 national comprehensive reform pilot majors, 21 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction point majors, 15 provincial characteristic high-level majors, 13 provincial characteristic majors, 9 provincial brand majors, and 6 provincial excellent engineer education and training program pilot majors. 1 first batch of national modern industrial colleges, 2 provincial modern industrial colleges, 1 national professional characteristic college cultivation college, 1 provincial professional characteristic college, 1 first batch of national virtual teaching and research room construction pilot project, 3 excellent grassroots teaching organizations of Jilin colleges and universities, 3 provincial basic disciplines top students training bases, 3 provincial farming and reading education off-campus practice bases, and 390 various practical teaching bases. It has 16 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 national course ideological and political demonstration course, 52 provincial first-class undergraduate courses (five types of "gold courses"), and 3 provincial course ideological and political demonstration courses. Three textbooks were awarded as the National Excellent Agricultural Education Textbook Funding Project, 17 textbooks were approved as the "14th Five-Year Plan" construction project of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the key textbook project of the Jilin Provincial Department of Education, and 23 textbooks were approved as the "14th Five-Year Plan" construction project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. It was rated "excellent" twice in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education, and successfully passed the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2016. In recent years, the school has taken the lead in implementing the reform of cross-disciplinary and major-category enrollment and training among colleges and universities in the province, and was approved as a demonstration university for talent training reform in Jilin Province (Class A). The school has deepened the "four new" construction with the construction of new agricultural science as the focus, and has been approved for 8 "four new" research and reform practice projects of the Ministry of Education, established the Changbaishan Innovation College of New Agricultural Science in Jilin Province, successfully hosted the National New Agricultural Science Construction Work Promotion Conference, and created the "Jilin Model" of collaborative education for the construction of new agricultural science. In the past two consecutive sessions, it has been approved as the second prize of national higher education teaching achievements, and one provincial higher education teaching achievement special prize. For many years, the implementation rate of graduates' graduation destinations has always been at the forefront of colleges and universities in the province. The school currently has 32 national and ministerial scientific research platforms, including the Mining, Creation and Application of High-quality, High-yield and Disease-resistant Germplasm Resources of Fungi Crops, the Innovation and Intelligence Base for Northeast Advantageous and Characteristic Resources and Healthy Food, the International Joint Research Center for the Creation of New Germplasm Resources of Edible Fungi, the National Engineering Research Center for Deep Processing of Wheat and Corn, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for the Selection and Development of New Ginseng Varieties, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for the Research and Utilization of Economic Fungi, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Animal Production and Product Quality and Safety, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Comprehensive Utilization of Straw and Black Soil Protection, the Ministry of Education International Cooperation Joint Laboratory of Modern Agricultural Technology, the National Crop Germplasm Resources Changchun Observation and Experimental Station, the National Crop Variety Approval and Characteristic Identification Station, and 78 provincial scientific research platforms. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken a total of 1,103 scientific research projects at all levels and types, with a scientific research fund of 555 million yuan. It has won 89 provincial and ministerial awards, and the number and quality of provincial science and technology awards have ranked first among provincial universities for many years. 1,806 academic papers have been published in high-level domestic and foreign journals such as Science, Microbiome, and Guangming Daily. The university has sponsored four professional academic journals, among which Journal of Jilin Agricultural University, Journal of Economic Animals, and Fungal Research were selected as China's fine science and technology journals, CSCD core journals, Chinese core journals, China's science and technology core journals, and agriculture and forestry core journals respectively; Journal of Home Economics is the first academic journal of home economics in my country. The university actively plays its social service function, and has established strategic cooperative relations with more than 60 local governments and enterprises. It has built a number of characteristic rural revitalization demonstration service bases such as rural revitalization experimental stations, school-enterprise R&D centers, and science and technology courtyards in China, forming a scientific and technological service system marked by the "Antu Model" of school-local cooperation, the "Minle Model" of school-village cooperation, the "Borui Model" of school-enterprise cooperation, the "Haotian Model" of targeted poverty alleviation, the "Jingyu Model" of scientific and technological assistance, and the "Zambia Model" of international cooperation. The school's poverty alleviation model was rated as the first batch of "20 typical cases of targeted poverty alleviation and targeted poverty alleviation in provincial universities across the country" by the Ministry of Education. It is a member of the "Belt and Road" South-South Cooperation Agricultural Education, Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, the vice chairman unit of the China-Africa Green Agriculture Development Research Center, and the Zambia Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center built on behalf of the country is known as a "South-South Cooperation Model". It has jointly carried out Sino-foreign cooperative education with the University of Camerino in Italy and Western Kentucky University in the United States, and is a qualified institution for Chinese government scholarships. As the Chinese implementing body, it vigorously carries out tripartite cooperation between the Chinese government, the Zambian government, and the Gates Foundation of the United States; it has established the "China-Zambia College" at the University of Zambia to carry out overseas education; it is the first provincial university in Jilin Province to carry out national-level foreign aid training and the first unit to carry out national "going out" overseas human resources training. The school covers an area of 1,325.03 hectares, of which the campus covers an area of 347.62 hectares, the teaching and scientific research bases are 977.41 hectares, the campus building area is 549,400 square meters, the total assets are 3.39 billion yuan, the library has 1.8667 million paper books, and 1.4029 million electronic books. The school is adjacent to the 5A-level scenic spot Jingyuetan National Forest Park. The campus planning is unique and the scenery is pleasant. It is known as the "Garden School". Since its establishment, the school has adhered to the school motto of "Mingde Chongzhi Houpu Duxing", always adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, closely focused on the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people, and insisted on serving the national and local economic construction and social development.
