Lanzhou University of Arts and Sciences is a general undergraduate college established in 2013 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Gansu Education College founded in 1950 and Gansu Union University founded in 1985. Gansu Art School was merged in 2011. The school is one of the first pilot colleges for transformation and development in Gansu Province, the Communication University of China determined by the Ministry of Education to support western colleges and universities, the training base for intangible cultural heritage inheritors of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the first "Gansu Civilized Campus", and the "Model College" for Party Building in Gansu Colleges and Universities in the New Era. The school is located in Lanzhou, an important node city of the Silk Road Economic Belt. The 3,000-mile Silk Road and the 8,000-year Chinese civilization, Gansu's important strategic location advantage of connecting the east and the west and the north and the south, and the colorful and brilliant natural and cultural resources provide the school with unique and rich resources and a vast and huge development space. In the course of more than 70 years of development, the school has always adhered to the school-running philosophy of "unity of knowledge and action, learning for application", practiced the school motto of "Mingde Qiangneng, Motivating and Practicing", and constantly explored and kept pace with the times, and cultivated a large number of high-quality application-oriented talents for the economic and social development and basic education development of Gansu. In recent years, the school has focused on the development of regional cultural tourism, media, and art industries, serving the construction of Gansu as a cultural province and a tourism power province, and guided by the cross-integration development of the "culture + creativity", "tourism + performing arts", "tourism + finance", and "tourism + design" industries. Focus on the construction of three major professional clusters of cultural and creative arts, tourism management, and news media, forming a school-running feature that directly focuses on empowering the development of regional cultural tourism, media, and art industries. The school currently has 14 secondary colleges, including the School of Arts, the School of Fine Arts and Design, the School of Music and Dance, the Vocational College of Art (Gansu Art School), the School of Tourism, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Journalism and Communication, the School of Media Engineering, the School of Digital Media, the School of Marxism, the School of Education, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Social Sports, and the School of Chemical Engineering. There are more than 11,700 students, including more than 11,000 undergraduates and 24 international students. The school currently has three provincial key disciplines, including Chinese Language and Literature, Tourism Management, and Applied Chemistry, five national first-class professional construction points, eight provincial first-class professional construction points, including Environmental Design, Journalism, Digital Media Technology, Tourism Management, and Visual Communication Design, one national first-class course, 21 provincial first-class courses, and 35 courses have been selected into the China Higher Education Smart Platform and adopted by more than 100 universities. There are 39 undergraduate majors, including Chinese language and literature, mathematics and applied mathematics, applied chemistry, environmental design, music performance, digital media technology, journalism, financial management, preschool education, electronic information engineering, tourism management, drama and film literature, visual communication design, radio and television, radio and television engineering, digital publishing, software engineering, investment, dance performance, data science and big data technology, social sports guidance and management, drama and film art design, broadcasting and hosting art, communication engineering, asset evaluation, ideological and political education, performance, translation, hotel management, materials science and engineering, cultural industry management, aviation service art and management, painting, digital media art, English, chemical engineering and technology, intangible cultural heritage protection, primary school education, accounting, etc., involving 8 disciplines, including literature, engineering, art, management, economics, law, education, and science, forming a discipline and professional system with tourism, media, and art majors as the main subjects, and coordinated development of literature, art, management, engineering and other disciplines. The school has six provincial scientific research platforms, including the 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for the Training of Opera Talents and the Development of Stage Repertoires in Gansu Province, the Collaborative Innovation Center for All-Area Tourism in Gansu Province, the Gansu Animation Engineering Technology Research Center, the Northwest National Culture and Tourism Development Research Center, the China-Tajikistan Cultural Research and Exchange Center, and the Key Laboratory of New Chemical Materials. It has three cultural and tourism strategic think tanks, including the Gansu Tourism Think Tank Secretariat, the Pamir Think Tank, and the Lanzhou University of Arts and Sciences Intangible Cultural Heritage Think Tank, as well as two scientific and technological innovation teams, the Gansu Rural Tourism Innovation Research Team and the Collaborative Development Center for the Large-scale Mythological Long Opera "Horse Stepping on Flying Swallow". In recent years, teachers have completed more than 370 scientific research projects at or above the department (bureau) level, including more than 120 national and provincial and ministerial projects; and published more than 2,300 academic papers. More than 70 scientific research awards at or above the department and bureau level have been obtained, including more than 30 provincial and ministerial awards. Seven works have won the highest award for literature and art in Gansu Province, the "Dunhuang Literature and Art Award", and two works have won the Fourth Gansu Literature and Art Criticism Award. The school currently has more than 900 faculty and staff, 608 full-time teachers, 317 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 52.1% of full-time teachers; 477 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees, accounting for 78.5% of full-time teachers. The school implements the Yanyuan Talent Project, combining external introduction and internal training, and introduces a group of outstanding talents with high academic qualifications and high professional titles; it has hired 14 industry leaders such as national arts and crafts masters, famous calligraphers and painters, famous writers, and winners of the "Plum Blossom Award" for opera as resident experts, and has hired more than 100 high-level talents from various industries and disciplines as distinguished professors. Since 2020, the teaching team has won numerous awards, including 1 national model teacher, 1 national "March 8 Red Flag Bearer", 1 national outstanding contribution award for sports, 2 members of the new teaching committee of the Ministry of Education, 1 "Ten Prideful Children of Long People" in Gansu, and 49 winners of various provincial honorary titles such as provincial leaders and provincial "four batches" experts. The school adheres to the open development strategy and actively serves the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt. We have carried out strategic cooperation with many cities in Xinjiang and Zhejiang, and various prefectures in the province; signed a counterpart support agreement with Communication University of China, signed an agreement with Lanzhou University to support the transformation and development of our school, and carried out multi-faceted cooperation and exchanges with Shaanxi Normal University, Renmin University of China, Tongji University and other schools; carried out cooperation and exchanges in scientific research, talent training and other fields with more than 10 universities in Tajikistan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Iran, South Korea and other countries, established a Chinese Cultural Exchange Center in Tajikistan, and students were funded by the China Scholarship Council to study in universities in Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia and other countries. Looking to the future, Lanzhou University of Arts and Sciences will be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implement the Party's education policy, firmly establish a new development concept, take moral education as the foundation, high-quality development as the theme, and reform and innovation as the driving force.
