Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics is an important financial and economic college in the western region of the country. It is the only financial and economic university in the upper reaches of the Yellow River Basin with a talent training system for undergraduate, master and doctoral students. The school started as the Administrative Cadre School of the Gansu Provincial People's Government established in 1952; in 1958, it was upgraded to Gansu Institute of Finance and Economics, which was under the leadership of the Gansu Provincial People's Government and implemented undergraduate education; in 1981, Lanzhou Business College was established, which was successively under the leadership of the former Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Domestic Trade; in 1998, a central and local co-construction and Gansu-based management system was implemented; in 2001, Gansu Workers' Finance and Economics College was merged into Lanzhou Business College; in 2002, Gansu Metallurgical Industry School was merged into Lanzhou Business College; in 2004, Gansu Provincial Planning School was merged into Lanzhou Business College; in 2003, it was added as a master's degree awarding institution; in 2015, it was renamed Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics; in 2018, it was added as a doctoral degree awarding institution; in 2023, it was approved to establish a statistics postdoctoral research mobile station. The university currently has three campuses: Heping, Duanjiatan and Donggang, covering an area of more than 1,700 mu, with a building area of more than 730,000 square meters and teaching and research equipment worth 185.4722 million yuan. The green area of the campus is 315,400 square meters, and it was awarded the honorary title of "Garden-style Unit" by the Lanzhou Municipal People's Government. The library has a collection of 2.46 million paper books and 8.37 million electronic books, and is an important economic management literature and information center in Gansu Province. The school recruits students from all over the country, and currently has more than 22,000 full-time undergraduate students, more than 3,100 doctoral and master's students, more than 12,000 continuing education students, and 21 international students. The school currently has more than 1,700 faculty and staff, including nearly 1,300 full-time teachers, more than 600 teachers with professor and associate professor titles, and more than 1,000 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees. Among the full-time teachers, there are more than 130 high-level talents (times) such as experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, provincial and ministerial outstanding experts, candidates for the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, leading talents in Gansu Province, candidates for the "333" and "555" talent projects in Gansu Province, subject leaders in Gansu Province, "Feitian Scholars" in Gansu Province, and famous teachers in Gansu Higher Education Institutions. Three people were selected into the National Talent Pool of 10,000 Outstanding Innovation and Entrepreneurship Mentors of the Ministry of Education, and there are 1 national teaching team, 19 provincial teaching teams, 13 provincial teaching masters, 6 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education and teaching masters, and 4 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship teaching teams. After more than 70 years of construction and development, the school has formed a discipline and professional system led by statistics, with applied economics and business administration as the main body, theoretical economics as the foundation, and the cross-integration and common development of multiple disciplines such as law, public administration, agricultural and forestry economic management, journalism and communication, computer science and technology, design, management science and engineering, and Marxist theory. It has two first-class (characteristic) disciplines in Gansu Province, namely statistics and applied economics, and 10 provincial key disciplines, namely statistics, theoretical economics, applied economics, law, Marxist theory, journalism and communication, management science and engineering, business administration, public administration, and design. It has a statistics postdoctoral research station, a first-level discipline for doctoral degree authorization in statistics, 7 first-level disciplines for master's degree authorization, namely applied economics, statistics, theoretical economics, business administration, management science and engineering, design, and Marxist theory, and 13 master's professional degree authorization points, namely business administration, accounting, finance, applied statistics, international business, insurance, asset valuation, auditing, journalism and communication, taxation, law, agriculture, and public administration. It is the first university in Gansu Province to obtain the qualification of an MBA professional degree training unit and has the qualification of a graduate student enrollment unit for high-level backbone talents from ethnic minorities. The school has 64 undergraduate majors, 3 majors are national characteristic major construction sites, 8 majors are approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 16 majors are provincial characteristic major construction sites, 15 majors are approved as provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 35 majors are "first-class" enrollment majors in Gansu Province. There are 3 national first-class courses, 66 provincial first-class courses, 26 provincial quality courses, and 57 provincial teaching achievement cultivation projects. Won 1 special prize and 6 first prizes in Gansu Province Teaching Achievement. Selected as the "Course Ideology and Politics" Demonstration Course of the Ministry of Education and the "Course Ideology and Politics" Demonstration University of Gansu Province. The virtual teaching and research room of the finance major was selected as the second batch of virtual teaching and research room construction pilot projects of the Ministry of Education. There is 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 7 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 1 national "College Student Off-campus Practice Education Base". It was selected as one of the first batch of national innovation and entrepreneurship colleges and the second batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, and was approved as one of the first batch of provincial "mass innovation spaces", five provincial innovation and entrepreneurship pilot majors, and four provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education MOOCs. Over the past 70 years since its establishment, it has trained and supplied more than 160,000 economic and management professionals for the country, especially the northwest region. The school has 20 teaching units including the School of Statistics and Data Science, the School of Finance, the School of Accounting, the School of Business Administration, the School of Economics, the School of International Economics and Trade, the School of Information Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, the School of Public Administration, the School of Finance and Taxation, the School of Law, the School of Marxism, the School of Business and Media, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Art, the School of Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management, the School of International Education (Central Asia Business School), the School of Continuing Education, the Department of Physical Education, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Innovation Practice Education Center), and the Evergreen College. There are 3 key laboratories in Gansu Province, 1 important think tank for the construction of the "Belt and Road", 1 new think tank in Gansu universities, 3 provincial key research bases for humanities and social sciences, 2 provincial 2011 collaborative innovation centers, 1 third batch of provincial technology transfer demonstration institutions, and 2 Gansu University Industry Research Institutes; there are 12 school-level scientific research institutions and 38 internal scientific research institutions, including the "Belt and Road" Economic Research Institute, the Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the Institute of Contemporary Chinese Marxism, the Western Public Opinion and Media Research Institute, and the Institute for the Realization of Ecological Product Value. The school insists on open education and has been added by the Ministry of Education as a counterpart support university of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Central University of Finance and Economics, University of International Business and Economics, and University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It took the lead in joining the "Belt and Road" University Strategic Alliance, the "Belt and Road" Research Branch of the China Higher Education Society, the "China-Central and Eastern European Countries University Association" and the "Silk Road University Alliance". It has established cooperative education relationships with more than 40 colleges and universities in the UK, France, the US, and Belarus, and jointly established the "Cultural Education Research Center" with the University of Wolverhampton in the UK, set up the first full-time "1+2+1" project Sino-US university experimental class in China, and opened a full-time "1+2+1" project Sino-Russian university experimental class. It has established the "Central Asia Business School", "Gansu Province Belarus Research Institute", and "Singapore Silk Road Confucius Institute", and actively created a platform to serve the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and open to the west and south.
