Minnan Polytechnic College was founded in 1998 and was upgraded to a general undergraduate college in 2008 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It was awarded the right to confer bachelor's degrees in 2012. In 2016, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education. The school is located in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, a famous historical and cultural city, a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, and the starting point of the "Maritime Silk Road". It is located on the west bank of the Taiwan Strait and the Baogaishan Scenic Area in Shishi, a coastal city. The campus covers an area of more than 1,100 acres and a total construction area of more than 600,000 square meters. There are more than 17,000 full-time students and more than 1,200 faculty and staff. The school adheres to the school-running positioning of "application-oriented, local, open, and characteristic", based in Quanzhou, facing Fujian, and radiating across the country. It has formed a discipline and professional system that focuses on engineering, combines science and engineering, and coordinates the development of multiple disciplines in economics, management, literature, education, and art. The school adheres to the school-running philosophy proposed by the founder, Chairman Xu Jingqi, of "providing guarantees and creating value for the healthy growth and success of every student", and cultivates high-quality application-oriented innovative talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor, and adapts to the needs of regional economic and social development. At present, the school has 1 national first-class undergraduate professional construction site and 7 provincial-level, 1 national first-class course, and 36 provincial-level courses. In addition, the school also undertakes 54 collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education's industry-university cooperation, has 2 provincial key disciplines, 6 provincial scientific research and innovation platforms, 3 provincial applied disciplines and 1 cultivation project. In terms of talent training, the school has established 2 provincial demonstration applied talent training professional groups, 4 provincial service industry specialty majors, 3 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot majors, 1 provincial modern apprenticeship project, 1 provincial college student innovation and entrepreneurship park and 1 national maker space. The school encourages and supports students to participate in various science and technology and cultural competitions. In the past three years, teachers and students have won more than 3,000 provincial and above awards. In 2023, the school won 1 gold medal and 6 bronze medals in the China International College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. In the "2019-2023 National New Undergraduate College Student Competition List" announced by the China Higher Education Society, it ranked 69th; in the "2019-2023 National Private College Student Competition List", it ranked 20th. The school has established long-term inter-school cooperation with many universities inside and outside the province. It cooperated with the National Key Laboratory of Process Industry Automation of Northeastern University to establish the "Academician Chai Tianyou Workstation", signed the "Education and Teaching Resources Cooperation Agreement" with Xiamen University, and signed a joint training agreement for master's students with Fuzhou University.
