Ningbo Institute of Technology is a full-time general undergraduate college and master's degree awarding institution approved by the Ministry of Education, jointly built by the province and the city, and mainly in the city. The school covers an area of 1,800 acres, with Fenghua Campus, Cuibai Campus and Qianwan Campus. There are currently 19 secondary teaching institutions, 48 undergraduate majors, 24 first-level disciplines, more than 16,000 full-time undergraduate students and 86 graduate students; our school has 1,305 faculty and staff, including 1,063 full-time teachers (including 170 counselors and laboratory technicians), 406 senior professional and technical positions, and 534 doctors. The school was "born because of Ningbo". In 1983, Ningbo Higher Vocational College, as the first engineering-based university in Ningbo, came into being on the wave of reform and opening up. The school was "established because of Germany". At the beginning of its establishment, as one of the four universities built in China by the former Federal Republic of Germany, it drew on Germany's successful experience in implementing "engineer education" and cultivating an applied talent teaching system, laying the foundation for the application-oriented school positioning goal. The school is "strong because of use". In 1997, it became a national demonstrative general higher engineering college; in 2004, it was upgraded and renamed Ningbo Institute of Technology; in 2010, it became one of the first 61 universities to implement the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education; in 2016, it was selected as a national industry-education integration construction university; in 2021, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution, and in the same year it was selected as a national education power project and the first batch of modern industrial colleges in the country. The school attaches great importance to discipline construction, insists on engineering as the main subject, and coordinates the development of multiple disciplines such as liberal arts, science, economics, and management. The disciplines of "materials science" and "chemistry" have entered the top 1% of the world in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database. The disciplines and majors are comprehensively arranged around the needs of local economic and social development, and have fully covered three major advantageous industries such as green petrochemicals, automobiles, and high-end manufacturing, as well as strategic emerging industries such as new generation information technology and new energy. The school vigorously promotes the construction of discipline platforms. In 2021, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution and two professional degree master's programs in civil engineering and water conservancy and engineering management. There are 6 provincial first-class disciplines, 7 municipal key disciplines, 8 provincial and above discipline platforms approved, and the China-Central and Eastern European Countries Innovation Cooperation Research Center, which participated in the construction, was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China to settle in Ningbo. Hangzhou Bay Automotive College and Robotics College were selected as national and provincial modern industrial college construction sites respectively. Teaching reform and professional construction have been fruitful. Five majors, including civil engineering, computer science and technology, chemical engineering and technology, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, and logistics management, were selected as national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 10 majors were selected as provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 4 majors were selected as provincial advantageous and characteristic majors, 11 majors passed professional certification, 3 national first-class undergraduate courses, 71 provincial first-class courses, and won 2 national teaching achievement awards and Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards in the past three years. "Using competition to promote teaching" has become a trend, and the school has been recognized as "Zhejiang Classroom Teaching Innovation School". The school explores and implements the reform of talent training modes such as "double integration of science, education, industry and education", outstanding engineers, new engineering and new liberal arts, and cultivates compound talents with applied research capabilities and applied practical capabilities. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 100,000 high-quality talents of various types. The admission rate for postgraduate entrance examinations has been rising year by year, and the comprehensive ranking of education quality has remained in the first echelon of the province. The employment rate of students in the year of graduation is about 95%, and the retention rate in Ningbo is more than 50%. The school attaches great importance to innovation and entrepreneurship education, and has co-built one national university science and technology park, two national maker spaces, Fenghua Youth Entrepreneurship Park and Hailanbao Maker Space. It ranks 97th in the country in the 2022 National College Student Competition Ranking. The school strengthens the construction of scientific research bases and teams, vigorously carries out applied research and technological development, and won 2 national science and technology awards. In the past five years, it has won 49 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards (including first-level industry association/society awards) and 22 Ningbo Science and Technology Awards; a number of high-level papers have been published in domestic high-level journals and international top journals, and 612 valid invention patents; the school has undertaken more than 200 projects at the provincial and ministerial levels and above, and won the support of the city's top talent project in 2020. The school is fully integrated into the local economic and social development, actively facing the main battlefield of local economic and social development, tackling local pillar industries such as port petrochemicals, intelligent manufacturing, port and shipping logistics, and key core technologies that need to be urgently solved in the construction of local major infrastructure such as rail transit and port bridges, and promoting the transformation and implementation of technological achievements with the support of collaborative innovation of key industries, universities and research. In the past five years, the school has served about 2,000 enterprises, and built a number of national, provincial and municipal modern industrial colleges such as Hangzhou Bay Automobile College, Green Petrochemical Industry College, and Robotics College; the school and the local government jointly built local research institutes such as China-Ukraine New Materials Research Institute, Xiangshan Research Institute, and Fenghua Research Institute; established a number of research institutions based on industrial services and social construction, such as the Institute of Automobile Collision Safety and Lightweight, the Institute of Regional Development and Common Prosperity, the "One Old and One Young" Development Research Institute, and the Rural Revitalization Research Institute. The school has carried out extensive foreign cooperation, learned from advanced foreign experience, strengthened its outward-looking school-running characteristics, and cooperated with Delaware State University and Wayne State University in the United States to hold accounting, information and computing science (big data), mechanical design, manufacturing and automation and other majors; it has established long-term and stable inter-school cooperation relations with nearly 100 colleges and universities in more than 30 countries. The school has built a Confucius Institute in Grenada, a North American country located in the Caribbean Sea. It attaches great importance to scientific and technological cooperation and talent exchange with overseas countries, and co-builds national-level scientific and technological cooperation platforms such as the China-Central and Eastern European Countries Innovation Cooperation Research Center with the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. The school has good comprehensive school conditions, complete infrastructure, and the total value of existing teaching and scientific research equipment is 550 million yuan. The school deepens the implementation of the "talent-strengthening school" strategy, focuses on major national development strategies, international academic frontiers and major regional needs, adheres to the "introduction and cultivation", and strives to build a high-level application-oriented teaching staff. In the past three years, a total of 225 high-level talents such as doctors have been introduced.
