North China Electric Power University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and a key university for the national "211 Project" and "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". In 2017, the school was selected as a national "Double First-Class" construction university, focusing on the construction of energy and power science and engineering disciplines, and fully embarking on a new journey to build world-class disciplines and high-level research universities. In 2022, the school successfully passed the first round of "Double First-Class" construction evaluation and entered the second round of construction universities list, and the electrical engineering discipline was selected as the second round of "Double First-Class" construction disciplines. The school was founded in Beijing in 1958 and was formerly known as Beijing Electric Power College. The school has long been under the management of the national power department. In 2003, the school was transferred to the management of the Ministry of Education. It is now jointly built by the State Grid Corporation of China, China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., China Datang Group Co., Ltd., China Huadian Group Co., Ltd., State Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd., State Power Investment Group Co., Ltd., China Three Gorges Corporation, China General Nuclear Power Group Co., Ltd., China Power Construction Group Co., Ltd., China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd., Guangdong Energy Group Co., Ltd. and the Ministry of Education. The school is headquartered in Beijing and has a Baoding campus, which is managed in an integrated manner. The school currently has nearly 3,100 faculty and staff, more than 24,000 full-time undergraduate students, and more than 12,000 graduate students. The school covers an area of more than 1,600 acres and a building area of more than 1 million square meters. Over the past 60 years since its establishment, the school has fully implemented the party's education policy, adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, rooted in the land of China to run universities, and implemented the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people, and has cultivated a large number of high-quality talents with both moral integrity and ability for economic and social development, especially the energy and power industry. The university adheres to the "four aspects" as a guide, continuously enhances its scientific and technological innovation capabilities, overcomes a large number of key technical problems in the energy and power industry, and has made important contributions to promoting high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement in energy and power. Entering the new century, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the university has adhered to the Huadian spirit of "self-improvement, unity and progress, love for the school and dedication, and pursuit of excellence", implemented the school-running policy of "discipline-based school, talent-based school, scientific research-based school, and characteristic development", seized opportunities and took advantage of the situation, and achieved leapfrog rapid development in various undertakings. The university has the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the School of Energy and Power and Mechanical Engineering, the School of Control and Computer Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of New Energy, the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, the School of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, the School of Mathematics and Physics, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Marxism, the School of Energy Internet, the School of Artificial Intelligence, etc., and currently has 67 undergraduate majors. It has two national key disciplines, "Power System and Automation" and "Thermal Engineering", "Clean Energy", a high-end discipline in Beijing, and 25 provincial and ministerial key disciplines. The two disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics were ranked A and A- in the fourth and fifth rounds of discipline evaluations respectively. Six disciplines, namely "Engineering", "Computer Science", "Environment/Ecology", "Materials Science", "Chemistry" and "Social Science", are among the top 1% in the world in ESI, among which the discipline of "Engineering" is among the top 60 and top 1‰ in the world. It has 7 postdoctoral research stations, 7 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points, 23 first-level master's degree authorization points and 16 master's professional degree authorization points, forming a complete education system for cultivating undergraduates, masters and doctoral students. The school vigorously implements the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, actively promotes the reform of the personnel system, and continuously improves the system of the whole chain of "introducing, cultivating, using and serving" talents, and gradually builds a high-level faculty team with positive progress, excellent quality and reasonable structure. There are 2,090 full-time teachers, including 449 with senior professional and technical positions and 823 with deputy senior professional and technical positions. There are 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, more than 100 other high-level talents, and many high-level research teams. The school takes talent training as its central work, and has formed the talent training characteristics of "solid foundation, emphasis on practice, strong ability and innovation". It has been selected as a national demonstration base for innovative talent training, and has become the first batch of universities implementing the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. It has been approved as the first batch of "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Bases" by the Ministry of Education, and initiated the establishment of the "Electric Power Industry Excellent Engineer Training School-Enterprise Alliance", which is the supporting unit of the Office of the Student Competition Working Committee of the China Electric Power Education Association. The school currently has 21 national first-class majors, 11 national characteristic majors, 4 national strategic emerging industry-related majors, 18 national first-class courses, 3 national ideological and political demonstration courses, 2 national teaching teams, 1 national teaching master, 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 national engineering practice education centers, 3 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone. The school focuses on building strategic scientific research forces and actively participates in the construction of the national innovation system. It has achieved remarkable results in important fields such as new energy, ultra-high voltage, smart grid, clean coal power, and nuclear power. There are currently 4 national science and technology innovation platforms, 1 national international science and technology cooperation base, 7 higher education discipline innovation and intelligence introduction bases, and 44 provincial and ministerial science and technology platforms and research bases. Since the "15th Five-Year Plan", it has undertaken more than 4,300 vertical projects such as the National Key R&D Program, the National Science and Technology Major Project, "973", "863", the National Science and Technology Support Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation, and has won more than 430 national and provincial science and technology awards. The university is firmly committed to the path of school-enterprise cooperation to develop and strengthen the university. The school actively spreads Chinese culture, and the Western Kentucky Confucius Institute established in the United States is the largest Confucius Institute in North America. The school actively implements the "dual carbon" era mission, and is the first domestic university to release a carbon peak and carbon neutrality action plan, and joins the Carbon Neutral World University Alliance as a founding member.
