Qiannan Medical College for Nationalities was founded in November 1985. It is a full-time general college approved by the Ministry of Education. It was rebuilt on the basis of Qiannan Prefecture Second People's Hospital. It was the only medical college in the three southwestern provinces at that time. In 1992, it was renamed Qiannan Medical College for Nationalities. In 2003, Qiannan Prefecture Health School, which was established 45 years ago, was incorporated.
