Shandong Aluminum Vocational College was founded in 1958. Its predecessor was the Amateur Engineering College of the 501 Factory, which was the same age as the Republic. In July 2004, it became a full-time higher vocational college with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Government and the filing of the Ministry of Education. It is the only higher vocational college in my country's aluminum industry system, one of the first national "high-skilled talent training demonstration bases", one of the first modern apprenticeship industry pilot colleges of the Ministry of Education, a national employee education and training demonstration site, and a national non-ferrous metal industry employee continuing education base. In July 2012, the first close-knit, industry-specific vocational education group led by a central enterprise in China, the China Aluminum Vocational Education Group, was established in the college. On July 1, 2016 and November 14, 2017, the Party Leadership Group of China Aluminum Corporation established the China Aluminum Party School and China Aluminum University respectively based on Shandong Enterprises and Shandong Aluminum Vocational College. The college has won the honorary titles of National Advanced Collective for Enterprise Management Training, National Advanced Unit for Worker Education, Advanced Unit for Worker Education in Shandong Province, Advanced Unit for Enterprise Education and Training in Shandong Province, Advanced Unit for Vocational Skills Appraisal in the Province, Advanced Unit for Worker Education in China's Nonferrous Metals Industry, and Excellent Appraisal Station for Vocational Skills in Nonferrous Metals Industry. In April 2019, the sponsor of the college, Shandong Aluminum Co., Ltd., became one of the first 24 "industry-education integration enterprises" of the Ministry of Education. At the same time, the college was rated as "Shandong Province School-Enterprise Integration Cooperation Demonstration College" by the Provincial Department of Education, and the company was rated as "Shandong Province School-Enterprise Integration Cooperation Demonstration Enterprise". The school-running characteristics of "school-enterprise integration and industry-university interaction" have been highly recognized by the higher-level education authorities. The college covers a total area of 1,674 acres, including two campuses in Zibo and Weihai. The new campus in Weihai covers a total area of about 924 acres and a total construction area of 350,000 square meters. It is built in two phases. The first phase covers an area of about 597 acres and a construction area of 197,000 square meters. The college has established 9 teaching units including the School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Internet of Things, the School of Business, the School of Internet, the School of Metallurgy and Construction Engineering, and the Department of Ideological and Political Education. It has 39 majors including industrial robots, non-ferrous metallurgical technology, big data technology and application, forming a professional group featuring non-ferrous metallurgical technology and non-ferrous electromechanical. Among them, non-ferrous metallurgical technology and carbon processing technology are unique to Shandong Province. There are more than 23,000 students of various types, and the employment rate of graduates has been above 98% over the years. Over the past 60 years, the school has trained and supplied more than 60,000 technical and skilled talents who understand business, management, and operation for the non-ferrous metal industry and local enterprises in Shandong Province, becoming a veritable "cradle" of technical talents in the aluminum industry. In recent years, the college has adhered to the enterprise-running model of integration of production and education and school-enterprise cooperation, actively explored vocational education reform and educational and teaching practice, and gradually accumulated and formed the enterprise-running characteristics of "five integrations", the talent training model of "three thirds", the internship model of "three stages" and the quality training model of "three dimensions", putting the school-running characteristics of school-enterprise cooperation and integration of production and education into practice.
