Shanghai Normal University is a key university in Shanghai. It is a comprehensive university with coordinated development of liberal arts, science, engineering, and art, which is good at liberal arts and has the characteristics of teacher education. The school was founded in 1954, became an undergraduate college in 1956, was identified as the first batch of master's degree awarding institutions by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council in 1981, was approved as a doctoral degree awarding institution in 1986, and was selected as an institution for the implementation of the Excellent Teacher Training Program of the Ministry of Education in 2017. In 2019, it became a pilot unit for the construction of high-level local universities (disciplines) in Shanghai.
