On the banks of the Yangtze River, there is Luzhou, the wine city; the chemical industry school, the peaches and plums are fragrant. Sichuan Chemical Vocational and Technical College (formerly Luzhou Chemical College) is a provincial full-time general college approved by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and registered by the Ministry of Education. It is affiliated to the Sichuan Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology. The school was founded in 1953 and was independently upgraded to a higher vocational college in 2003. It is now the oldest chemical higher vocational college in the country. It is known as the "Huangpu Military Academy of Western Chemical Vocational Education" and the "Cradle of High-skilled Chemical Talents in China". The school is located in the core area of the Craftsman City in Western China, with a superior geographical location. The school covers an area of 1,117 acres (217 acres in Jiugu Lake Campus), the library has more than 1.305 million books, more than 13,000 students, and more than 800 faculty and staff, including more than 40 professors and more than 110 associate professors. In 2021, the school was confirmed by the Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Department of Finance as a project construction unit for the construction plan of high-level higher vocational schools and high-level professional groups in Sichuan Province. In 2022, with the approval of the Provincial Department of Education, the school jointly with Sichuan University of Light Industry and Lu Tianhua Group Co., Ltd. held undergraduate vocational education in the "Chemical Engineering and Technology" major pilot. The school is the vice president unit of the China Chemical Education Association, the national demonstration training base for vocational education and training in the petroleum and chemical industry in China, the southwest base for education and training of the China Chemical Safety Association, the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot colleges in Sichuan Province, and the high-quality higher vocational school in Sichuan Province. The school sets up majors based on market demand. It currently offers 38 majors, including 3 national backbone majors, 5 provincial demonstration majors, 3 backbone majors of the Innovation Action Plan, and 4 provincial modern apprenticeship pilot majors. It has established three industrial colleges, including the Chemical New Materials Industry College, Lu Tianhua College, and Sichuan Liquor College; it has formed a professional system with chemical medicine as its characteristics, coordinated development of intelligent manufacturing, digital economy, food and beverage, and economic and trade logistics, covering the "5+1" modern industrial system in Sichuan Province. It has a national vocational skills appraisal station and multiple training centers. The school has always attached great importance to the vocational skills training of students. The total area of the on-campus experimental and training bases is 56,796.9 square meters. It has built one national-level productive training base, two national-level dual-qualified teacher training bases, and three provincial-level productive training bases. It has built a comprehensive training base for chemical production (DCS) and an electrical training base funded by the central government. There are 20 training centers and 170 experimental training rooms, covering all majors, and the experimental training rate is 100%. There are 2 provincial-level skill master studios, 1 Luzhou City skill master studio, and 2 provincial-level virtual simulation training centers. There are 26 pilot projects for "1+X" vocational skill level certificates. It is the only institution in Sichuan Province with hazardous chemicals training qualifications. The school's graduates have very smooth employment channels, and more than 300 enterprises and institutions in and outside the province have established long-term and stable graduate supply and demand relationships with the school. Large and medium-sized enterprises such as CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC, CNNC, Chengdu Railway Bureau, Dow Chemical, Wanhua Chemical Group, Dongfang Electric Group, Luzhou Laojiao Group, Langjiu Group, Kelun Pharmaceutical, Diao Group, and Haier Group have become training bases and employment bases for school graduates. Graduates have good ideological qualities and strong professional skills, and are well received by employers in various industries. A considerable number of graduates have become technical backbones and management cadres of various enterprises and institutions. In recent years, the school's graduate employment rate has ranked among the top schools of the same type in the province. Over the past 70 years, the school has trained more than 100,000 graduates. In the southwest region, "where there are chemical companies, there are people from the chemical institute."
