Historical evolution: The school is an undergraduate college that moved westward during the "Third Line Construction". In 1965, in response to Chairman Mao Zedong's call and with the instructions of Premier Zhou Enlai, some confidential majors of the former East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology) were moved westward to Zigong City, Sichuan.
