Wenzhou-Kean University is a cooperative project between Zhejiang Province and New Jersey, USA. It is a Sino-US cooperative university with independent legal personality. On November 16, 2011, the Ministry of Education of China approved the cooperation between Wenzhou University and Kean University in the United States to prepare for the establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University. On March 31, 2014, the Ministry of Education of China approved the establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University. The university implements the principal responsibility system under the leadership of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors, composed of both Chinese and American people, is the highest decision-making body of the university. The establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University has received the cordial care of the central leadership and the high attention of the Party committees and governments at all levels. On May 8, 2006, Comrade Xi Jinping attended the signing ceremony for the joint establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University held at Kean University in the United States and delivered an important speech. The Ministry of Education listed the preparation for the establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University as one of the major Sino-foreign cooperative education projects to expand educational openness and promote reform through opening up. In July 2014, the university was included in the joint results of the fifth round of Sino-US high-level consultations on people-to-people exchanges as the only education project in Zhejiang Province. On September 23, 2015, President Xi Jinping affirmed that Wenzhou-Kean University was "running well" at the Third China-U.S. Governors Forum. In June 2018, the Ministry of Education and Zhejiang Province held their first meeting to clearly state that "Wenzhou-Kean University will be included in the list of key demonstration projects for Sino-foreign cooperative education, and support will be given to the construction of an internationalized, high-level university." Wenzhou-Kean University closely follows the educational philosophy of "finding different development directions for different students" and the goal of establishing a world-class university, and has taken a distinctive international approach to education. In November 2013, the university successfully passed the relevant evaluation of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In March 2018, it successfully passed the bachelor's degree awarding institution review. In November 2019, the university was approved to upgrade its educational level and offer foreign master's and doctoral degree education in 11 master's and doctoral programs. The university closely combines China's national conditions with the development needs of regional economy and culture, innovates the Sino-US integrated education and teaching model, builds a world-class campus, teaching and research system, faculty, service and management - an international university with "four world-class" education levels, explores the construction of a high-level Sino-foreign cooperative university, strives to cultivate high-quality talents with international vision and patriotism, actively promotes the comprehensive reform of my country's higher education, better serves the development of regional economy and culture, and strives to become a model of cooperation and exchange in the field of Sino-foreign higher education. The TOEFL (TOFEL) test center of Wenzhou-Kean University was unveiled in September 2019, marking that Wenzhou became the third city in Zhejiang Province to have a TOEFL test center. In January 2020, Wenzhou-Kean University was approved to set up a test center for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), becoming the only GRE test center in southern Zhejiang. The campus construction of the university is included in the list of major projects for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. The university's many internationalization indicators are among the best in the country. The school's philosophy is to introduce advanced foreign teaching concepts and methods. 100% of the professional courses are introduced from Kean University in the United States, using American and international original textbooks. 100% of full-time teachers are recruited from all over the world, and small classes, all-English, exploratory, and cooperative teaching are implemented; and efforts are made to run schools in China and integrate into China's national conditions and cultural education. The school advocates self-management and full-staff education. The goal of talent training is to cultivate students into international application-oriented talents with a global vision, knowledge of international rules and affairs, and the ability to innovate, create and develop. The school adheres to the talent training path of "Start here, go anywhere", taking Wenzhou-Kean University as a new starting point in students' lives to help them step onto the international stage. The school adheres to the principle of "taking the foundation as the basis", strives to run undergraduate education well, and gradually carries out graduate education. At present, the university has five colleges, including the College of Business and Public Administration, the College of Architecture and Design, the College of Humanities, the College of Science and Technology, and the College of Education. It has introduced the majors that Kean University in the United States has advantages and are urgently needed in Zhejiang Province. It has opened 18 undergraduate majors in six disciplines, including economics, science, engineering, literature, management, and art, forming a discipline and professional system with economics and management as the main subjects and science, engineering, literature, and art promoting each other. At present, the university has three provincial first-class discipline construction projects (applied economics, biology, and business administration), 10 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction points (international business, computer science and technology, finance, marketing, visual communication design, English, biological sciences, accounting, architecture, and mathematics and applied mathematics), three "13th Five-Year Plan" featured majors (international business, visual communication design, computer science and technology), and one Wenzhou municipal featured major (mathematics and applied mathematics). The School of Business and Public Administration, in conjunction with the School of Business and Public Administration of Kean University in the United States, applied for the most authoritative international Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation (currently, only 5% of business schools in the world have obtained this elite accreditation). The accounting major has been renewed by CPA Australia, the visual communication design major has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the architecture major has officially obtained the initial candidate status of the National Architectural Accreditation Board (NAAB), and the psychology major has been accredited by the Psi Chi International Honor Society. After undergraduate graduation, the school will issue a degree certificate from Kean University in the United States, a degree certificate from Wenzhou Kean University, and a graduation certificate from Wenzhou Kean University. At present, the school has opened 9 master and doctoral programs, including International Business Administration (Master of Business Administration), International English Teaching (Master of Arts), Computer Information Systems (Master of Science), Biotechnology Science (Master of Science), Architecture (Master of Architecture), Psychology (Master of Arts), Educational Management (Master of Arts), Educational Leadership (Doctor of Education), International Accounting (Master of Science), and will successively open Educational Psychological Counseling and Supervision (Doctor of Philosophy) and Education and Clinical Psychology (Doctor of Psychology). Graduates can obtain the corresponding degree from Kean University in the United States. The school currently has more than 500 Chinese and foreign faculty and staff, including more than 220 full-time teachers from 40 countries and regions around the world. More than 90% have a doctoral degree or the highest degree in this major. Teachers have published more than 1,000 papers in total, and have published more than 300 papers in international academic journals included in SCI and SSCI as the first author or corresponding author. According to Scopus statistics, the academic influence (Field-Weighted Citation Impact) of the papers published by the school in 2022 has increased significantly (2.28), and various indicators rank among the top universities in China. The percentage of the top 10% cited papers (Outputs in Top Citation Percentiles) is 17.9%, higher than the Chinese average (11.4%); the percentage of papers published in the top 10% academic journals ranked in the world by citations (Publications in Top Journal Percentiles) is 19.1%, higher than the Chinese average (18.5%). The excellent global faculty provides strong talent support for the school's internationalization. In 2023, the school will recruit more than 1,100 students nationwide, with more than 4,500 students on campus. It has exchanged more than 1,750 students with Kean University in the United States. At present, the school has eight graduates of more than 3,300 people, and about 60% have gone to world-renowned universities for further studies. Among them, about 62% were admitted to world-renowned universities ranked in the top 100 by QS, such as Harvard University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, University College London, University of Edinburgh, University of Melbourne, University of Hong Kong, and University of Toronto in Canada, and 43% were admitted to the top 50 universities in the world. Some students choose to take the postgraduate entrance examination in China and successfully enroll in well-known domestic universities such as Peking University, Fudan University, Tongji University, and Southwest University of Political Science and Law. The enrollment rate of the 2023 graduates is 75%, and nearly 60% enter the top 50 universities in the world for further studies. According to the China University Rankings of the Shanghai Ranking, the school's undergraduate graduate enrollment rate in 2019 ranked 13th in the country. Outstanding student representatives of the school frequently appear on international frontier platforms such as APEC meetings, World Youth Leadership Training Camp, Student Youth Leadership Summit, and World Youth Forum. They have won many awards in high-level competitions at home and abroad, such as the Microsoft "Innovation Cup" Global Student Science and Technology Competition and the American College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition. They have also made their mark in international authoritative journals such as Frontiers in Microbiology and Bioinformatics. They have published more than 160 papers in international academic journals indexed by SCI and SSCI, and participated in international academic conferences about 370 times. The school is located in Li'ao Street, Ouhai District, Wenzhou City, a famous hometown of overseas Chinese with beautiful scenery. The campus is planned to cover an area of 3,000 acres. The campus buildings reflect the design concept of "Chinese layout, Western architecture", and strive to create a humanistic campus that blends Chinese and American cultures, and create an ecological, intelligent, and open campus. At present, the first phase of the campus has been built (including under construction) with a total of about 300,000 square meters of building facilities required for basic education and teaching. The overall planning of the second phase of about 2,000 acres has been basically completed, and the construction of the third student dormitory area and the second phase of the teacher apartment is being promoted. An international, modern and open university campus has begun to take shape. In twelve years, starting from the intersection of Chinese and American education, the school has embraced and integrated the green mountains and waters of Wenzhou with American culture. The campus buildings have been selected as the "Top Ten Landmark Projects" of Wenzhou City, included in the "Hundred Projects to Celebrate the Centennial" exhibition project, and reported as a typical "Sponge City Project". According to the school's strategic plan, by 2027, it is expected to achieve 7,000 students and more than 400 full-time teachers, with a total of 30 master's and doctoral and undergraduate majors, and a campus building area of about 380,000 square meters, making it a model of Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools, a bridge for cultural exchanges, a cradle for international talent training, and a demonstration of serving local development.
