Wuyi University is a comprehensive public institution of higher learning with engineering as its main discipline established by the People's Government of Guangdong Province in 1985. It is qualified to accept students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese, international students and recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for postgraduate degrees without examination. It is now a doctoral degree-granting project construction unit and a high-level science and engineering university construction university in Guangdong Province. The school is located in the central urban area of Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, an important node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and "China's No. 1 Overseas Chinese Hometown". The campus environment is beautiful, the infrastructure is complete, and the school conditions are good. It covers an area of more than 1,000 acres and the total building area of the school is 700,000 square meters. The school recruits undergraduate students from 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, and recruits master's students at home and abroad. There are more than 22,000 students of various types, including nearly 20,000 full-time undergraduates and 1,400 master's students. The school has 21 teaching institutions and 83 undergraduate majors (directions), involving 7 disciplines such as economics, management, law, literature, science, engineering, and art. There are 21 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 5 national characteristic major construction sites, and national comprehensive reform pilot projects, and 3 majors that have passed the national professional certification; 39 provincial key (famous) majors, characteristic major construction sites, and provincial applied talent training demonstration majors. There are 2 provincial demonstrative industrial colleges, 4 provincial modern industrial colleges, 4 provincial special talent training plan construction projects, 6 provincial science, industry, and education integration practice teaching base construction projects, 1 national college student off-campus practice education base, 26 provincial college student practice teaching bases, and 7 provincial demonstrative teacher education practice bases. The school currently has 10 provincial key disciplines, 7 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 2 second-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 6 professional master's authorization categories. The master's authorization covers all science and engineering majors of the school. The school currently has more than 1,200 full-time teachers, of which nearly 55% have doctoral degrees; it has 25 national and provincial high-level talents; 7 people were selected as the top 2% of the world's top scientists in 2023. The school has 19 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms such as the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Medical Large Animal Models, and 63 municipal and departmental scientific research platforms such as the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Water Quality Online Monitoring and Governance. The school focuses on national strategies and high-quality development of regional economic and social development, actively promotes the construction of the China-Pacific Island Disaster Prevention and Reduction Cooperation Center, and has built three disciplines: materials and energy, biomedicine and health, and intelligence and manufacturing. It has established high-level scientific research institutions such as the Pacific Island Research Institute, the Chinese Overseas Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Institute, the South China Biomedical Large Animal Model Research Institute, the Dual Carbon Research Institute, and the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Culture Research Institute, and established 5 co-construction innovation platforms such as the "Sino-German Artificial Intelligence Research Center (Jiangmen)". The school adheres to the principle of opening up to the outside world, giving full play to its advantages of being adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao and being located in the "first hometown of overseas Chinese in China", and constantly expanding international exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and conducting international exchanges and cooperation with more than 70 universities and research institutions. Together with the University of Macau and Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area West Coast Science and Technology Innovation and Talent Training Cooperation Alliance was jointly established. Joint graduate training programs are carried out with more than 20 well-known universities in the United States, Hong Kong and Macao.
