Xi'an Jiaotong University is the earliest famous higher education institution in my country and is well-known both at home and abroad. It is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education. Since the westward migration, generations of Jiaotong University people have taken root in the west and served the country, making outstanding contributions to the development of the west and national construction, and forged the first batch of westward migration spirits included in the spiritual spectrum of the Chinese Communists with practical actions. He founded Nanyang Public School in Shanghai in 1896, which was named Jiaotong University in 1921. The school adheres to the school-running purpose of "seeking practical learning and practical industry", and emphasizes the school-running goal of "cultivating first-class character, seeking first-class knowledge, creating first-class careers, and becoming first-class talents". By the 1920s and 1930s, it became a famous university with unique "science, engineering and management" characteristics. During the Anti-Japanese War, the school moved to the concession and moved to Chongqing. It insisted on running schools in Shanghai and Chongqing. In order to resist foreign aggression, many students gave up their pens and joined the army and fought bloody battles. On the eve of liberation, teachers and students actively participated in the democratic revolution and liberation struggle, and the school was hailed as a "democratic fortress". In 1955, the central government decided to move Jiaotong University to Xi'an; in 1956, teachers and students moved to Xi'an in batches; in 1957, it was divided into two parts, Xi'an and Shanghai, under unified leadership; in 1959, the Xi'an part of Jiaotong University was named Xi'an Jiaotong University, and in the same year it was listed as one of the 16 key universities in the country. In 2000, the State Council decided to merge Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Medical University, and Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics to form a new Xi'an Jiaotong University. The school is a key construction unit of the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" and "Eighth Five-Year Plan", and is one of the first batch of national "211" and "985" engineering construction schools. In 2017, it was selected as a Class A construction university in the list of national first-class universities, and in 2022 it was selected as a national second round of "Double First-Class" construction universities. 8 disciplines were selected as national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines, and 12 disciplines were selected as Shaanxi Province's "Double First-Class" construction disciplines. The school is a comprehensive research university covering 11 disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, art, education, and cross-disciplinary. It has 34 colleges (departments, centers), 9 undergraduate colleges, and 3 directly affiliated hospitals. There are currently 6,568 faculty members, including 3,755 full-time teachers.
