Xinjiang Normal University is a key normal university in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was established in December 1978 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Urumqi No. 1 Normal School and Xinjiang Teacher Training Department. Xinjiang Normal University is one of the first batch of newly established universities in the country after the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee. Bathed in the spring breeze of reform and opening up of the Party and the country, it has always grown and shared the same fate with reform and opening up for more than 40 years, and has embarked on a path of rapid development. The school has always adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, fully implemented the Party's education policy, implemented the fundamental task of cultivating people with morality, and integrated the core socialist values into the whole process of education and teaching; the school adheres to the school motto of "learning and practicing, being a model for others", and has always taken "educating people for the Party and cultivating talents for the country" as its mission, and has made important contributions to the economic and social development of Xinjiang, especially the development of teacher education. The school's teaching area covers an area of 2,435 acres, with three campuses: Wenquan, Kunlun, and Wenguang, located at No. 100 Guanjing Road, Shuimogou District, No. 102 Xinyi Road, Shayibak District, and No. 16 Kashi East Road, Xinshi District. The Wenquan Campus is the main campus and administrative center of the school. The teaching area covers an area of 1,994 acres. It mainly undertakes the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students in liberal arts and some science majors, as well as preparatory education and training tasks; the Kunlun Campus is currently mainly responsible for the school's science and art majors, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as continuing education, distance education, teacher cadre training, and international student education; the Wenguang Campus is mainly responsible for the training of junior college students. The school currently has 20 colleges, among which the School of Marxism is a national key school of Marxism. The school was authorized as a master's unit in 1993, authorized as a doctoral unit in 2013, and approved as two first-level discipline postdoctoral mobile stations in chemistry and ethnology in 2023. There are currently 6 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points and 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point for education, 17 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 14 professional master's degree authorization points, 67 undergraduate majors, and disciplines and majors cover 11 disciplines. There are 14 autonomous region-level teaching masters and 13 autonomous region-level teaching experts. The university currently has 28,060 college students, including 21,695 ordinary undergraduates (20,608 undergraduates and 1,087 junior college students), 4,187 graduate students (364 doctors and 3,823 masters), 171 international students, and 2,007 collaborative program preparatory students. The school has 2 affiliated kindergartens, 1 primary school, 2 junior high schools and 1 high school, with 433 faculty and staff and a total of more than 5,500 students; the affiliated middle school has successively won the titles of autonomous region model senior high school, autonomous region moral education model school, national education system reform pilot project school, autonomous region moral education research work advanced school, autonomous region's first batch of primary and secondary school aesthetic education (music education, calligraphy education) characteristic schools. The school focuses on connotation construction and quality improvement. There is currently 1 national key construction discipline, 1 autonomous region advantageous discipline revitalization project construction discipline, and 3 autonomous region characteristic discipline innovation project construction disciplines; there are 23 first-class majors, including 15 national first-class majors and 8 autonomous region first-class majors; there are 4 national first-class courses and 26 autonomous region first-class courses; in recent years, a total of 29 autonomous region-level teaching achievement awards have been won. The school closely focuses on the major strategic needs of the country and the autonomous region, promotes the innovative development of basic research and its close integration with applied research, and continuously improves the level of scientific research and social service capabilities. The school has 157 teaching, professional and research laboratories (90 undergraduate teaching and 67 scientific research). The school library covers an area of 55,000 square meters, with a total collection of 1.78 million books, 325 professional journals, more than 152,700 selected electronic journals, 555,000 electronic books, and 35 databases of various types. "Journal of Xinjiang Normal University" publishes philosophy and social science editions, natural science editions and bilingual education research. Among them, the Journal of Xinjiang Normal University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition) ranks among the six core social science academic journals in the country, and has won the titles of "National Social Science Fund Excellent Journal", "Top 100 National Newspapers and Periodicals", "Famous Social Science Journal", "Social Science Boutique Journal", "Most Popular Journal" and so on; the composite impact factor of the journal is 9.905, ranking first among the comprehensive humanities and social science journals of national universities for three consecutive years. The school attaches great importance to foreign exchanges and cooperation, and actively carries out scientific research, talent training, social services, and cultural exchanges and cooperation with domestic universities. It realizes the joint training of undergraduates and postgraduates and the exchange, further study, and visiting studies of cadres and teachers with "Double First-Class" counterpart support universities such as the University of Science and Technology of China, East China Normal University, Dalian University of Technology, and Shaanxi Normal University; and has established long-term cooperative relations with more than 20 universities in Russia, Japan and other countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school has established 3 Confucius Institutes in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and has won the title of "Advanced Confucius Institute" many times.
