Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics is a key university founded by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Its predecessor was the cadre training class of the Xinjiang Provincial People's Government established in 1950; it was upgraded to Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics in 1959; it was transformed into Xinjiang Finance and Trade School in 1962; and it was restored to Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics in 1980 with the approval of the State Council. In 2000, Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics merged with Xinjiang Economic Management Cadre College and Xinjiang Finance and Taxation School to form the new Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics; in 2007, it was renamed Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school campus covers a total area of 630,502 square meters, and the school building area is 610,021 square meters, including 148,392 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings, 123,482 square meters of student dormitories, and a total of 2.7134 million books, including 1.2934 million paper books, 1.42 million electronic books, and 37 databases. The school currently has six major disciplines: economics, management, law, engineering, science, and literature. There are 42 undergraduate majors, 4 national specialty majors, 1 comprehensive reform pilot major of the Ministry of Education, 16 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 3 autonomous region first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 4 autonomous region key majors, 4 autonomous region experimental teaching demonstration centers, 13 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 14 autonomous region first-class undergraduate courses. It has a national makerspace and has been rated as one of the first national demonstration schools for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. The school currently has 16 colleges and departments, including the Silk Road Economic and Management Research Institute, the Horgos Research Institute, the Kashgar Regional Economic Development Research Institute, and the New Structural Economics Research Center. It has two country-specific research centers of the Ministry of Education, the Kazakhstan Research Center and the Central Asia Research Center, and four autonomous region general colleges and universities humanities and social sciences key research bases, including the China (Xinjiang) and Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Research Center, the Xinjiang Enterprise Development Research Center, the Xinjiang Social and Economic Statistics Research Center, and the Xinjiang Finance and Financial Collaborative Innovation Research Center. The school has established counterpart support relationships with Renmin University of China, Central University of Finance and Economics, and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and has established cooperative relationships with Xi'an Jiaotong University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Northeast Forestry University and other universities; it has established cooperative relationships with more than 40 foreign universities such as Wisconsin Union University, Woosong University in South Korea, and Novosibirsk University of Economics and Management in Russia, and has established a Confucius Institute in cooperation with Zhubanov University in Aktobe, Kazakhstan.
