The university was founded in 1938. Its predecessor was the Agricultural College of National Yunnan University, which was located in Chenggong County, Kunming City. In 1958, it was independently built into Kunming Agricultural and Forestry College and moved to Heilongtan in the northern suburbs of Kunming. In 1962, Yunnan University of South Yunnan and Yunnan University of West Yunnan were merged into Kunming Agricultural and Forestry College. In 1969, it moved to Binchuan County, Dali Prefecture. In 1970, it moved to Xundian County, the former Qujing District. In 1971, it merged with Yunnan Agricultural Labor University to form Yunnan Agricultural University, and moved back to Heilongtan in the northern suburbs of Kunming in 1980. In 1983, it became a master's degree-granting institution, in 1993 it was listed as a key university in Yunnan Province, in 2003 it became a doctoral degree-granting institution, and in 2007, a postdoctoral research mobile station was established. In 2008, the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of Education was excellent. In 2009, 2013, and 2014, the provincial party committee and government established Yunnan Rural Cadre College, Yunnan Food Safety Management College, and Yunnan Plateau Characteristic Agricultural Industry Research Institute respectively based on the school's educational management resources. More than 80% of senior agricultural technicians in Yunnan Province, more than 80% of the heads of agricultural technology extension stations (institutes), and more than 80% of the leaders in charge of agriculture in counties and townships are graduates of our school, and more than 25% of them are ethnic minority graduates. The research results were published as the cover article of Nature and have been widely promoted and applied in China, covering a total area of 302 million mu, breaking through the major problem of single crop variety planting and becoming a successful example of using biodiversity to control pests and diseases in the world. They won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the National Technological Invention Award. Professor Li Zhengyou and others took the lead in breeding China's first male sterile rice line, and were the first to realize the "three-line" matching of hybrid japonica rice in my country. They won the National Science Conference Award and created a world record of 1,108.55 kg per unit yield of hybrid japonica rice. Professor Dong Yang's team's grape resource research was published on the cover of the top international journal Science, revealing many important conclusions such as the origin, migration, and variety differentiation of grapes, and providing an important reference data set for grape genome-assisted breeding and variety traceability. This achievement marks that my country's grape biological resource research has reached a world-leading position. In 1986, it began to send teachers abroad for further studies, learning and exchanges. Cooperating with well-known companies such as Yunnan Tianhua to carry out projects such as "School-Enterprise Collaborative International Education" to promote the internationalization of social services.
