Zhejiang Chinese Medical University is a key university and high-level university in Zhejiang Province. It is a university jointly built by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of the school was the Zhejiang Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was founded in 1953. Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1959. In 2000, it moved to the Binjiang Higher Education Park in Hangzhou. In 2006, it was renamed Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the school for inspection and guidance during his work in Zhejiang. He made important instructions and instructions to the school four times, pointing out the direction for the school's high-quality development. In the process of more than 60 years of running the school, the school has adhered to the school motto of "seeking the roots and ambitions", and formed the concept of "education-oriented, academic supremacy", the school spirit of "seeking truth and truth-seeking", and the spirit of "great doctors are sincere and innovative". The university currently has Binwen Campus and Fuchun Campus, covering an area of more than 1,500 acres, with 20 secondary colleges (teaching units), including the First Affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine), the Second Affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Provincial Xinhua Hospital), and the Third Affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Provincial Zhongshan Hospital), as well as 4 affiliated hospitals with homogeneous management, including the Affiliated Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Affiliated Provincial Tongde Hospital, the Affiliated Wenzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Affiliated Ningbo Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are more than 23,000 full-time students (including more than 5,200 master and doctoral students and more than 800 academic students) and more than 1,500 faculty and staff. The school is a national demonstration base for the cultivation of innovative talents, with a large number of experts and scholars, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, national medical masters, "Changjiang Scholars" distinguished professors of the Ministry of Education, national "Ten Thousand People Plan" science and technology innovation leaders, national famous Chinese medicine practitioners, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, and Zhejiang Province's special experts. The school is fully committed to promoting discipline construction and continuously improving its scientific and technological innovation and service capabilities. It is the first batch of national key disciplines (clinical basis of traditional Chinese medicine) among Zhejiang provincial universities. Traditional Chinese medicine has been selected into the Zhejiang Province's peak discipline construction plan, and traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine have been selected into the provincial advantageous and characteristic discipline construction plan. It ranks 779th in the top 1000 of the 2023 Soft Science World University Academic Ranking (second among traditional Chinese medicine colleges), and 3 disciplines are in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. It has established the Ministry of Education's Medical Basic Research Innovation Center and 2 national clinical research bases for traditional Chinese medicine, and has 53 provincial and ministerial platforms such as the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Collaborative Innovation Center, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory, and Zhejiang Provincial Key Cultivation Research Base for Philosophy and Social Sciences. It has won 5 National Science and Technology Progress Awards and National Technological Invention Awards, the first prize of the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award for Higher Education Institutions (Science and Technology), and 14 first prizes in Zhejiang Province Science and Technology. It hosts three academic journals: Journal of Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, CCMP, and Zhejiang Clinical Medicine. The school focuses on moral education and continuously improves the quality of education and teaching. It is one of the first universities in the country to recruit and train TCM postgraduates. It is the first among Zhejiang provincial universities to obtain the right to confer doctoral degrees and postdoctoral research stations. It has opened 34 medical and related undergraduate majors such as TCM, clinical medicine, stomatology, Chinese pharmacy, and nursing. It has 11 national first-class undergraduate majors, 3 first-level doctoral programs, 9 first-level master programs, 10 professional degree programs, and 3 postdoctoral research stations. It has established a number of provincial and ministerial teaching platforms and 2 provincial modern industrial colleges, including the National TCM Clinical Teaching and Training Demonstration Center, the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and the National College Students' Off-campus Practice Base. It has won 5 national teaching achievement awards. The school gives full play to the characteristics of TCM and actively promotes social services and foreign cooperation and exchanges. It has successively carried out strategic cooperation with more than 10 cities (counties and districts) inside and outside the province, and jointly built 7 local research institutes such as Zhejiang TCM University Jinhua Research Institute (Zhezhong Laboratory) and Zhejiang TCM University Fuyang Research Institute, and established a number of school-local cooperation platforms such as technology transfer centers and expert workstations. The school is the first batch of higher Chinese medicine colleges to obtain the right to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and the first batch to recruit Hong Kong students without examination. It has established the Zhejiang Province Chinese Medicine Culture Education Base for International Students in China, and recruits foreign students from more than 60 countries and regions. It has established cooperative relations with more than 160 educational, scientific research and medical institutions in more than 50 countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, and Japan. It has established 2 Confucius Institutes, 1 overseas branch, 4 overseas Chinese Medicine Centers, and 1 National Characteristic Service Export Base (Chinese Medicine).
