Introduction
The University of Tours is a public comprehensive university located in Tours, France. It was founded in 1969 and is the largest university in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France.

History
The University of Tours was founded in 1969. It was established after the French student movement in 1968 to promote the modernization and democratization of higher education. It was formed by the merger of several old educational institutions. Its predecessor can be traced back to the Tours Medical College established in 1841. The School of Rhetoric founded here during the reign of Charlemagne is the ancestor of its literary and philosophical teaching.
