Maharishi University of Management and Technology is a private university established under the Chhattisgarh Private Universities (Establishment and Operation) (Amendment) Act, 2018, with the approval of the Governor of Chhattisgarh on April 13, 2018 and published in the Chhattisgarh Gazette (Special) on April 17, 2018. Brahmachari (Dr.) Girish Chandra Varma is the Chancellor of Maharishi University of Management and Technology, Dr. Pankaj T. Chande is the Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Vijay Kumar Garudik is the Registrar.

The Constitution and Ordinances of the University were approved by the CG State Government on October 14, 2019. The name of the University has been included in the list maintained on the website of the University Grants Commission (UGC) at www.ugc.ac.in and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. Maharishi University of Management and Technology (MUMT), Mangla, Bilaspur (CG) is the first private university in the city of Bilaspur.
