History
The origin of the University of Genoa can be traced back to the college that existed in 1307 and was established on August 8, 1471. The final "Statutes of the College" were promulgated by the Council of Elders on 14th, 1481, when it was founded as a seminary, and 10 years later in 1481, the School of Medicine was established. In 1569, these colleges were incorporated into other schools run by the Jesuits. In 1773, the university began to offer courses in canon law, philosophy, civil law, theology, logic and metaphysics, physics, elementary education, rhetoric, reading and writing. After the establishment of the French Empire, the Italian government subdivided higher education into special schools. Since then, the University of Genoa has developed rapidly by adding schools and departments.
