History and establishment time

The history of the University of Macerata can be traced back to the law course in 1290, when it was one of the oldest buildings in Italy. On July 1, 1540, Pope Paul III officially established a number of disciplines including theology, law, medicine and philosophy, marking Macerata as a complete university. With the changes of the times, the discipline settings have been adjusted many times, such as in 1861 After the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy in 1949, the theology courses were affected, the number of other subjects decreased, and the law courses were retained and expanded.
