Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra is a public higher education institution located in Coimbra, central-western Portugal. It is one of the largest polytechnics and one of the most important higher education institutions in Portugal.

History and Establishment

Founded by decree in 1979, it officially operated in 1988 through the creation and merger of new and old schools. Some of its schools have independently awarded degrees since the 1970s, and some were even technical or vocational schools before that.
