Founded in 1948, it was formerly the Kaluga State Teachers College. In 1963, it was renamed the Tsiolkovsky Kaluga State Teachers College. In 1994, it became the Tsiolkovsky Kaluga State Teachers University. In 2010, it was changed to its current name.
