The school was founded in 1969 as a branch of the Leningrad State Academy of Culture. In 1974, it became the Kazan State Academy of Culture. In 1991, it was renamed the Kazan State Academy of Culture and Arts. In 1995, it obtained the status of an institute, and on July 4, 2002, it was officially renamed the Kazan State Academy of Culture and Arts. It has become the Kazan State University of Culture and Arts.
