Its history can be traced back to 1900, when the Department of Mechanical and Thermal Engineering of Tomsk Polytechnic Institute began to train engineers for locomotive and coach enterprises. The department was established as an independent school in Tomsk in 1930, moved to Omsk in 1961 and renamed Omsk Railway Engineer College. It was upgraded to a college in 1994 and officially named Omsk State University of Transport in 1997.
