Introduction

Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, also known as Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in English, RUDN or Friendship University for short, is a comprehensive university located in Moscow, Russia. It is also a national university funded by the Russian federal government and is known as the “cradle of world politicians”.

Student size: As of August 2024, there are approximately 33,000 students.

Faculty: As of 2022, the school has more than 2,200 professors, associate professors and teachers, of which 1,300 have doctoral and postdoctoral degrees. Among the teachers, there are 61 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 50 have been awarded the title of Meritorious Scientist of the Russian Federation, and 26 academicians of foreign academies of sciences.

History

Establishment time: On February 5, 1960, Soviet leader Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev signed an order to formally establish the Peoples’ Friendship University.

Important development nodes: On February 22, 1961, the university was named Patrice Lumumba University; in 1964 In 1990, the People's Friendship University of Russia joined the International Association of Universities (UIA); in 1990, the University formulated a new teaching direction and created a university preparatory and additional professional education system; on February 5, 1992, it was officially renamed the People's Friendship University of Russia; in 2000, the school opened a teaching and research group under UNESCO - the Teaching and Research Group on Comparative Education and Politics; in 2008, the Office of the President of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University was established at the school; in 2009, the University of Russia became the chief coordinating agency of the Commonwealth of Independent States United University Network; on March 23, 2023, the Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education signed an order to restore the school to the name of Patrice Lumumba University.

The school is located at No. 6 Miklukha-Maklaya Street, Moscow. The campus buildings were designed and planned by the Soviet People's Architect Yakov Borisovich Belopolsky. Most of the buildings have unique styles and high artistic value.
