Introduction

Russian State University of Oil and Gas is the largest university specializing in oil and gas in Russia. It is named after geologist Ivan Gubkin and plays an important role in education and scientific research in the field of oil and gas.

The school was established in 1930 on the basis of some departments such as the Moscow Mining Institute. Its predecessor was the Moscow Mining Institute's Petroleum Department established in 1918. In 1929, the dean of the institute, Ivan Gubkin, established the Petroleum Department, laying the foundation for the establishment of the Petroleum Institute. In 1930, the school was renamed the Moscow Mining Institute. Moscow Oil Academy was officially established in 2000.
