The academy was established in 1944. Its predecessor was the Yaroslavl Agricultural Academy. In 1957, the academy moved to Vladivostok. In 1977, the Timiriazev Moscow Agricultural Academy established a branch in Yaroslavl. In 1990, the branch became an independent Yaroslavl Agricultural Institute. In 1995, it was officially renamed the Yaroslavl State Academy of Agriculture.
