History:

The school was founded in 1908 and was originally one of the six agricultural schools in Oklahoma. It was named by E.D. Cameron, the first school superintendent in Oklahoma, and was affiliated with the State Agricultural and Industrial Education Committee.

In 1927, it added a junior college major and changed its name to Cameron State Agricultural College. In 1966, it was approved to confer bachelor's degrees, and in May 1970, it was awarded its first bachelor's degree. In 1971, it was renamed Cameron College, and finally changed its name to Cameron University in 1974.
