The college was founded in 1847 and was not originally located at its current location. Its development process is relatively tortuous, and the school has moved its location many times. It was first founded by Lutheran education pioneers in the small town of Hillsboro, Illinois. It used to be called "Literary and Theological Institute of the Far West Lutheran Church" and "Luther College". In 1870, it moved to Carthage, a midwestern city in Illinois, and was officially renamed Carthage College. Later, after years of development and exploration, it moved to its current location in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1962.

Geographic location:

Located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA, it is located between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with convenient transportation and close to Lake Michigan. The campus is surrounded by a beautiful environment with more than 80 acres of woodland, providing students with a good learning and living environment.

Students will ring the bell after winning sports events; "Kissing Rock" has been a part of Carthage College since 1913. Students can paint on the rock to promote organizations, activities, etc. It has become a multi-faceted symbol of campus spirit.

Holiday Events: Since 1974, a grand Christmas Music Festival has been held in early December every year. This is one of the largest events of the year, highlighting performances by student vocal and instrumental ensembles and drama students.

Sports: About one-third of Carthage students participate in intercollegiate athletics, and another one-third participate in many intramural and club sports, including men's bowling, women's bowling, and men's curling and ice hockey.
